(I don't subscribe to a political party just to get that out of the way.)
I live in the Central Valley of California. The only conservative spot in the state, and up there with the most conservative places in the country. It's routinely placed on lists of the worst places to live in the US. Poverty, teen pregnancy, drugs, air quality.... basically every metric.
Essentially, what I am saying is that localized politics don't really necessarily decide if a place is attractive to live in. There are great places to live in the Bay, in SoCal, and in all of the other liberal havens.
