no pass needed, he was pretty open about it.

I don't think anyone is (s)elected without already playing ball.
I do recall his biggest problem with Operation Iraqi Freedom was that "we didn't take the oil."

The failed operation in Venezuela jogged my recall...

IIRC, his first trip as President was to Langley where he made the same remark about Syria.

They're still holding down the oil rich northeast with the Kurds if I recall. I threw in the towel as far as following this stuff goes, it's far to discouraging for me. The rewriting of the regional history in British, Israeli and American media, and even in the textbooks is enough to make me sick. When I left Yoshida's I let it all go.

probably for the best.

I got really into it again during the 2016 election with the 'trojan horse' thing & then kind of burned out. it all seems kind of pointless now.

you were always well-rounded & informed. I get that it can be exhausting.

I still have my Syrian and Iraqi twitter friends, they all do the best they can. I think the Mandean-Sabean people may be extinct now. How it's all worth it in the end escapes me, but then, I'm not a criminal mastermind.

“Just spoke to @realDonaldTrump on #Venezuela. It’s true he disagreed with some of the views of previous advisor. But as he reminded me it’s actually the DIRECT OPPOSITE of what many claim or assume. If in fact the direction of policy changes it won’t be to make it weaker,” Rubio had tweeted.
