There is never an effort to remove guns from the hands of criminals and gangs but they love to look like they are doing something by going against hunters ,farmers and sport shooters.
I know people who's livelihood's will be crushed if they go through with an AR/handgun ban. The problem begins with people demanding to determine someone's "need" to have something.

In the last 12 months we learned for sure that he obstructed justice, sold out the environment over corporate interests, admitted to groping a woman (something he himself said should be a career ender regardless of the circumstances) and now this. Everything people accuse Trump of, he actually did and the party is still presenting him as a leader.
The scuttlebutt is that no one expected him to win so the party didn't properly vet him and the CPC didn't take him seriously enough in 2015 to dig very deep on him.
