As a 49ers fan... I agree completely.

He's still better a ton of guys that are on rosters though. He could start for several teams, especially with the injuries so far this year. At the very least he's one of the top 60 QBs in the league and should be on a roster for that reason.

But I totally understand not wanting the baggage and distraction.
Baggage > Talent

Pretty much all there is to it.

The Dallas Cowboys are the New York Yankees of football, in all the worst ways.

Change my mind.

but the Patriots won more consecutive games, against a MUCH deeper talent pool.

and I hate the fucking Pats.

I have no problem with the guy.
He just isn't very good.
He's definitely in the top half of active QBs.

that makes him pretty good. But it's a free market of employment, AFAIK. He made a decision to sacrifice that for the opportunity to highlight social injustice. I don't know if anyone is 'good enough' to play in the NFL after causing that kind of ruckus.

If he was good enough he'd be playing. He actually got offered a few jobs but wanted to be the starter, not a backup. That's a decision he made.
His last 2 years he had a combined 3-16 record.

Without all the bullshit, he's probably on a roster somewhere. I don't know that he'd be starting. But his talent doesn't trump the drama that follows him.

according to him, he turned down offers that were contingent on him not kneeling.
He's said repeatedly that he'd play for any team in any role, but wasn't going to budge on the kneeling.

his last year playing he had a QBR in the neighborhood of Cam Newton and Matthew Stafford, on dumpster-fire teams that were always playing from behind because the defense was porous. On good teams, his QBR was in Tom Brady/Andrew Luck/Philip Rivers range.

He's better than half the starters in the NFL.

We can agree to disagree.
I watch a ton of football and remember watching his games. He wasn't anything special. He had trouble reading defenses and held on to the ball too long. Took a ton of sacks because he couldn't make a decision. I do agree he'd be on a roster if it wasn't for the kneeling issue, but I don't know that he'd be starting. People forget he was benched for poor play before all the kneeling shit was making news.

His stats went to shit when they changed head coach and offensive coordinator. He sucked under two head coaches, Tomsula and Chip Kelly, who coached for exactly that year before never coaching in the league again.

but he did have a long release and an over-reliance on throwing on the run. Russel Wilson sucks as a pure pocket passer, so does Deshaun Watson. Imagine if they had been switched to a Big Ben offense in their 3rd year of starting. :D

Either way, agree that he brings too much baggage for the talent...but that's from the perspective of a bunch of old white guys.
As a Niner Fan, I would have preferred Kap to any QB not named CJ Beatherd (Go Hawkeyes) that they've had since Kap left.

Kap's record last two seasons: 3-16
coach's record last two seasons: 8-26

painful time to be a Niner fan.
me watching games back then was like being a Dolphins fan now.

Losing by 4 but playing better than the Cowboys overall. Dropped passes and fumbles are the only reason we're losing
