All booked in. Having it done two months from now. Wish me luck!
The economist in me says, "Australia saves money per person on healthcare with good outcomes and this isn't really an emergency soooo..."

The doctor in me says, "2 months? wtf. lol I would just have it done anytime you wanted this week, including tomorrow"

I ask the interested person before I meet the if they want kids. If they yes, I tell them I had a vsc and I move on
Don't do that. Please think of all the poor little wrigglers, who will never see the light of day! Or at least consider adoption?! !

I have to pay out of pocket for it, so 2 months will allow me to save

Sounds like a good American system to me ;)

Out of curiosity, vasectomies and tubal ligations are not covered under the Australian national plan?

How much does it cost if you don't mind me asking?

Our health system - Medicare - covers the majority, but we have the pay the practice the full amount and then get the govt to transfer us the rebate.

In the case of the vasectomy. I have to pay about $650 I think, but the govt will give me about $220 back.

With More vital things like GP visits. The govt will pay you back like $40 of a $75 cost.

So the doctor doesn't really have to bill the system? You do?

OMG. I'm in love.
Between 33% and 40% of my overhead is just billing and related expenses.
I could make the same money and charge 25-33% less If my patients were paying me directly and then taking the time to get reimbursed on their end.

Usually it is, or at least was. I saw the doctor on Friday (on an unrelated matter) and I tapped my card to pay the $75 fee. But then they got me to tap again and the $40 rebate went straight back on my card!

So it seems a lot more streamlined now
