There should probably be 3-4 linkages. Two will be the inner and outer unlock handle. Most likely both attached at the same point. The key unlock (if it takes a key passenger side may not) and the inside unlock linkage probably attached to the door lock actuator. They are usually rods attached with plastic clips. Some cars use cables but the rods are more common.
yeah thats what im tryna figure out. there are two cables that i think i didnt attach, and after looking at door lock/latch assemblies in general onlione last night, im assuming those to be the inner and outer handles. which makes me wonder if accessing them is a moot point if the latch itself is in lock position (but im not sure that could happen since those two are the only two i think i didnt reattach

but if they are the solution, i should be able to reach down with a coat hanger and pull them up as i open handle

here goes nothing!

I’m confused... so you can open the passenger side door? Why not just open the driver’s side from the inside. You say he left the locking linkage off. Did you mean he left the linkage for the door latch off? Two different things. There should be linkage for the inside handle, outside handle(which usually hooks to the same lever as the inside linkage), and then a locking linkage.

Both his handle linkages are disconnected (latch).

Your car has been at the shop since July?
Yeh. I havent driven it in years so I told the dude to take his time. I'm a team player

Also, there was a bunch of work to do. He changed alternator. I vaguely recall something else popped up which I okayed. And he cleaned it did something with my transmission instead of buying a whole new transmission

Is he the owner of the shop?

Another question for you car gurus:

So I got a new alternator and got the transmission rebuilt. Drove it like 5 miles home. Couope months later I drove it one mile to a guy for inspection

He said they dont actually check fumes. They just check the computer. And if the computer says it's okay then it passes.

He said my car didnt fail anything. No errors. But that not all the data points are showing. He suggested I drive up the highway and back so we tried. But same thing

Is it because after the transmission work the computer is reset. And I have to drive it a bit so that the computer can gradually collect all the data points?

If the battery was disconnected then the ECU needs to run through a cycle that checks for catalytic converter efficiency. The test cycle requires the catalytic converter to get up to optimum operating temperature, so it probably needs at least a 20 minute drive at highway speeds. If it passes the internal test then it will set a flag that indicates the emissions system is working correctly. If it fails, a check engine light will come on. The inspector checks that flag through the OBD-II port.
