That doesn't make you gay though. It's like having a man crush, or being like @conor mcgregor nut hugger and his fascination with that Snow guy. It doesn't make him gay though.

I'll agree that childhood plays a huge role in sexual desires later on, as childhood development is a vulnerable stage for people regarding sexual development. But mainly genetics and hormonial factors will decide whether you are gay or not.

I understand why people ask the question, they want to know how, as if being gay is still regarded a psychological disorder.

That kid most likely will be straight, but accepting of the gay culture. It's nothing they have control over unless going through extremes which would imply abuse. Either or, highly unlikely scenario.

They've tried this with kids, nuetral toys, etc. Naturally, most boys wanted cars and play guns, and girl went for dolls, etc. It's a failed way of thinking, it's denying biology as a science. It's arrogance.
How do you explain the growing percentage of gay population? Are gay genes breeding faster? That seems like a bit of a stretch.

In U.S., More Adults Identifying as LGBT

My theory? Nature makes some people naturally gay. The sudden increase of gay population? Nurture/society.

I think most people are born gay or whatever, but I do think you can become at least bi if you really try.

Interesting take. I would argue that more people feel safer to come out now more than ever. Even if the inlfux of gays was accurate, that still could mean genetics are at play. It doesn't eliminate the nature element.

So you think the shitty movies and music of today turns people gay? You actually may have a point there sir. I do feel more gay than I have ever felt.

All chicks are at least a little bit gay and potentially can swing either way, but most dudes cannot. Believe me, if it were possible for me to stop being attracted to crazy little brunettes, I would've stopped years ago.

Like what about those cases where boys get sexually abused by men growing up and later develops a preference for gay sex?

No I spent most of my life hating onions, then in my late 20s I made myself like them, I figure it would be something like that

The stigma around being gay is diminishing thankfully so more people are out of the closet. I don't think necessarily there are more gay people, just more gay people admitting it than before.

It wasn't really that long ago that a man taking it up the ass would land you in prison.

It'd certainly help pass the time.
I watched a nice film called The Imitation Game, it was about a great gay who helped us win the war with his super computer but then the limeys threw him in prison and did all sorts of fucked up shit to him.

It showed that it's not all prancing around and dressing up with the gays, some of them are actually quite useful.

I agree and disagree. I had considered more people coming out of the closet because it is more widely accepted, but not much more accepted since 2012. I would say the difference should almost be negligible.

What stood out to me was the democratic (edit: demographic (autocorrect)) that made up the increase. The millenials, mostly. It isn't all across the spectrum of age groups, which is what you would probably see if indeed people were finally unafraid to come out. Which tells me that kids are being raised/nurtured in a way and being exposed to a society that promotes homosexuality.

I think that we are going to see the numbers continue to rise and I don't attribute it to the gay gene being bred faster, because lets face it, gays don't breed, and it is also hard to imagine a much more accepting society than we have now. So if the numbers continue to increase (let's say in 5 years so ~2023) and a study shows a higher percentage, I would have to absolutely attribute the growth to environmental factors.

I'd say it's definitely more widely accepted since 2012 being that same sex marriage was only completely made legal here in 2015. The nature/nurture aspect is very interesting though.

A Hollywood film promoting homosexuality??!
In this day and age??
*shocked*

Isn't it standard for kids to want to grow up to be like the heroes in movies?
Sudden influx of gay heroism through Hollywood and now we have higher rates of gays. I don't think that's a coincidence.

No, not really. Do you choose who you find attractive? Or do you just do. The idea it's a choice, the choice that you can somehow change your sexual nature, or gender even, now that is silly to me.

You have never made a choice to be straight, you just were. Unless you have some brilliant story to tell me.

Yes that's true, I choose to be straight because the thought of being gay repulses me. But not everyone has such strong preconceptions, most of which are due to upbringing.

I think the argument that it is nurture just as much as nature, that influences sexuality, cannot seriously be disputed as it can be demonstrated over and over again with real examples. It is only disputed these days because it's considered offensive and politically incorrect to suggest that some people fall into relationships with other people for a vast number of reasons beyond that they were wired to be that way.

Here's another example - the victims of pedophiles often grow up to become pedophiles themselves. Is this because they were affected by their upbringing, or were they born as pedophiles? If one form of sexual persuasion can be created by influences in their life, then why can't another?

It's not an example, it's an indicator that childhood development plays a huge role in adult sexual urges/preferences in later life. It's just not something that is limited or unique to sexual orientation. It can play a role in many fetishes one can develop while reaching sexual maturity. It shouldn't be confused however with actual sexual orientation.

Societal pressures play a part.
