Regulated by the autonomic nervous system, inhaling oxygen is an unconscious process. Fortunately it’s an unconscious praxis, otherwise we simply wouldn’t have a break, as we’d have to deal with it incessantly. The amount of oxygen that we inhale through our breathing influences the amount of energy that is released into our body cells. On a molecular level, this progresses via various chemical and physiological processes.

Breathing is the easiest and most instrumental part of the autonomic nervous system to control and navigate. In fact, the way you breathe strongly affects the chemical and physiological activities in your body. Throughout the years, Wim Hof has developed special breathing exertions that keep his body in optimal condition and in complete control in the most extreme conditions. The breathing technique is first and foremost premised on inhaling deeply and exhaling without any use of force!

Hof:“By not breathing out entirely, you come to a point where a residual of air remains in the lungs. After doing this thirty times, you exhale again without any use of force. This time though, you don’t immediately inhale again, but wait with inhaling until you sense your body needs new oxygen. After this, the whole process starts again. While you start to sensations of lightness, laxity and tingling, these rounds are repeated a number of times”.

By training you breathing actively, you increasingly gain control over a range of physiological processes in the body.

Been doing it for three years. It's been an absolute lifechanger and paradigm shift for me. Cannot stress that enough.

As this is not a "do you know about the whm" introductory thread I'll jump right in.

I've done the same trip in Poland as they do in the Vice documentary. I've worked on giving input/feedback in creating the new online course (the old one is better though imo). I've met the guy (he swears A Lot, but in a funny friendly way). I showed him some pictures of incredibly fast wound healing after a car crash and even he was astounded. I attribute a lot of the the healing to the activation of the self healing processes by the breathing, focus and believing in the the stuff (aka placebo aka mindset). Healing is self healing.

Some criticisms: sometimes in the interviews, the scientific facts from the studies are a bit misrepresented. And (not the WHM team's fault) youtube has been flooded with too many 'hip' WHM review videos of influencer-douchebags. Sometimes they make ridiculous claims ('never get sick again' etc. That's BS) Better to get the information from the source.

p.s. the cold is just a nice 'party trick'. The breathing and mindset are the main thing. Connect with the body. The body is you! If you got that down you can overcome cold or hangovers or some allergies or stuff like that. For free, no pills or expensive bullshit. It can't cure a snakebite or a torn off arm though :D

And although I have written about "questionable claims" in the post above, I've seen and reliably heard about people with real stuff (crohn's disease, diabetes, super aggressive allergies that used to keep my buddy k.o.-ed in bed) overcome it.
Myself car crash wounds and food poisoning.

I do this couple times a week.
Highly recommend before meditation. Better than DMT .... I would assume.

yea wim hof says once you've reached the peak level (blood alkalined, when oxygen converts to co2 and h2o in the mitochondria...), you activate your body's opioid and endo-cannabinoid system, kind of like gettng high on your own supply he calls it.

I went to the Wim Hof workshop in San Jose and we did 6 rounds of 40 breathes and I swear I thought I dropped some ecstacy pills or something.

I heard of this a long time ago but just thought it was woo woo and never tried it
