152-pound Jose Aldo eating ‘almost two pounds of salad a day’ to make bantamweight limit

Jesse HollandDec 4, 2019, 4:06pm EST

I was going to open with a joke about salads but according to coach John Kavanagh, former UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, captured the 145-pound crown on nothing but leafy greens and spring water.

The man he beat for the 145-pound strap, Jose Aldo, will be employing a similar strategy as he attempts to cut down to the bantamweight division. A move precipitated by his unanimous decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski last May.

“Yeah, I’ve always done that, but this time I can’t [eat steak],” Aldo told the combat sports media (via MMA Fighting). “Only if it were a vegan steak house, salads only. I’m eating that a lot now, almost two pounds of salad a day. But I’ll be able to do that the Saturday after the fight.”

Aldo (28-5) takes on former bantamweight title contender, Marlon Moraes, at the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event later this month in Las Vegas, Nevada (more on that fight here). “Magic” is ranked No. 1 in the divisionand won four of his last five.

The drop to 135 still seems like an unusual move from Aldo, he doesn't look healthy in that picture either in my opinion.
Agreed, he doesn't look good there. He is so lean in that pic, I bet the final cut before the weigh in is going to be rough. I wonder how he is going to handle taking shots and damage when he is diminished like this. I don't play a doctor on TV, but this doesn't seem healthy in my opinion.

As a long time Aldo fan, I would have much rather seen him go up to 155.

Exactly, cut will not go well and even if he does make it to the cage he can't be at 100%.

"You know, so I just started smoking and I drink about 1.5 litres of black coffee now, you know, against the hunger, you know. Besides that just salads, diet cola and tic tacs."

He belongs at 155 his skills plus the speed advantage he would gain would make him a killer again....plus he won’t be so drawn out which would increase his output.

He was calling for a weight change since forever makes no sense he chooses bantamweight

It was a good ole scrap and I had aldo as the winner
He was stalking moraes down the entire fight
I'd watch it but the bagel shop is open. I like to watch UFC while drinking beer and it would be a bad look for me to walk thru the shop with a bag full of beer at half ten in the morning
