After a decade fighting as a featherweight and holding the title for the majority of that run, Jose Aldo made his bantamweight debut on Saturday against Marlon Moraes. It wasn’t a successful one, as the former long-time champion lost via split decision.

But even after this second straight loss, Dana White is seeing big things for Aldo. With the belief that he actually won the fight against Moraes, the UFC president is now looking to book Aldo to challenge 135-pound champion Henry Cejudo.

“I had Aldo winning that fight,” White told media members in a post-fight scrum.

“Henry Cejudo texted me tonight and said, “That’s bullsh-t, he didn’t lose that…

Despite UFC 245 loss, Dana White says ‘I don’t have a problem’ giving Jose Aldo a title shot

Marlon should go to Bellator and enter the 135 tournament.
UFC is a joke.

Idk how anybody with functional eyeballs had Moraes winning that fight, textbook robbery
He won the first and third.

Marlon had a handle on most of the first easily; Aldo came back & might've been on his way to stealing it but Marlon took it back with a beautiful throw.

Aldo moved forward & undisputedly took the second.

Aldo continued movement forward throughout the third, but Marlon countered better, scored more, and took ground back.

It was a close fight, but not too difficult to score, unless the volume was up and DC & Rogan's voices were convincing.

I don't have a problem in principle with a fighter getting a shot coming off a loss . Hell, even consecutive losses. Case in point - Yoel Romero. Because Yoel is the most interesting fight available and in close defeats in wars his stock didn't drop.

But that applies to established contenders in divisions, not guys who are 0-1 in that division. That would be fucking absurd.

Interesting how Dana doesn't have a problem giving Aldo a title shot to anyone not named Conor Mcgregor.
That's still the rematch Jose deserves, and deserved.

Ehhhhhh...........

All this "ranked" shit doesn't mean nothin' to me. They can either fight in tourneys to show who the real champ is or put together the fights I want to see. I want to see interesting match-ups.

Rotating through the voted on rankings doesn't tickle my pickle........

Only time I've rooted against Conor because this is a Jose Aldo house and couldn't believe that lasted just was it 14 seconds? I feel like Conor has Aldo's number the way Shish Khabib has Conor's eventhough there's no one I want to lose more than Shish Khabib...

They must be hurting for money. No other reason this shit would be happening. They do and have always had their agenda, just like any org, but this type of statement can only come out of desperation.

Tournaments are the purest way to crown a champ no doubt.

You watched that Jones press conference too eh....

It was a close fight man.

Aldos pressure in the 3rd was empty though, Marlon out struck him, it doesn't matter if you're pressing the action if you aren't getting the better of the exchanges.

Disagree. You only face half of the competitors in your division/bracket and you're using MMA math to say tourney winner is the best. Tourneys aren't about who's best it's about who's left. I love them but it's not the same as a long reigning champ who cleans out the division.

It wouldn't be the first time ufc publicly stated they were going to ignore a fighter's loss and treat it as a win.

What other ones are there? Jones DQ over Hammill is all I can think of.

Dana White: UFC treating 'robbed' Ross Pearson like he won, will give him 'next level fight'

Still in the dumps after coming up short on the judges' scorecards at UFC Fight Night 42, Ross Pearson might find comfort in hearing that Dana White and Co. will treat him as the rightful winner of his fight against Diego Sanchez and will get a "next level opponent" in his next bout.

Key word is crown, I agree any long standing champion is the best, obviously.

Ideally the divisions would be built up where the booking was essentially shadow tournaments, at least for the top of any given division. Not everyone would have to beat the same number of challengers, but once someone got high up there you could have a plan for the next three title shots in a row. Joe Silva did something similar to this, and we're seeing the cost of his absence. If MMA wasn't such a depressing affair these days I'd write up a more in depth example, but the basic gyst is:

Example Featherweight Title Feed:
-Next shot: Yair Rodriguez vs. Volkanovski
-Shot after Next: winner of Chan Sung Jung vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov
-Shot after That: winner of Holloway/Stephens vs. Burgos/Emmett
-Some matches to help line up Shot after THAT: Bektic vs. Kattar, Ryan Hall vs. Lamas, Ortega vs. Moicano, loser of Rodriguez/Volkanovski vs. Edgar

Unfortunately current hotshot booking has made it so most of these people are currently coming off a loss, and you'd need some reserve bouts in the mix (like two or three more), but this is just an example of how it could be done. No actual published brackets, and people can be switched in an out (fight like Jon Fitch you get slow-tracked, fight like TKZ you get fast-tracked), but having a continuous supply of credible contenders planned out 20 months or more in advance is totally feasible in the deeper divisions, but the UFC just doesn't care about the credibility side of things.

Khabib doesn't have Conor's number, he is just 100 times better than him. Jose fell victim to a chance KO when he made a horrible mistake against Conor, but Conor certainly was in his head...BADLY.

I think an immediate rematch between the two of them goes very differently, but I don't know how that translates to now...
