Chute Box fight camp explains why Charles Oliveira and Felipe Arantes missed weight for UFC Mexico.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Charles Oliveira weighed 155 pounds for his 145-pound clash with Ricardo Lamas at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale.

His bantamweight teammate, Felipe Arantes, also missed weight by two pounds at yesterday’s official weigh in. The Chute Box team made a statement on Friday, claiming that “Do Bronx” struggled with the weight cut due to the high altitude of Mexico City and the short notice terms of his fight with Lamas.

"Our athlete Charles ‘do Bronx’ was invited to fight only three weeks ago," the statement read, per Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting. "Even with the short period of recovery, the fighter proudly accepted another challenge to…

Would have been best to not say anything because what he did is inexcusable

This is what I don't understand about certain fighters/fighter managers. I don't want to say Brazilians because some American fighters and fighters of other nationalities do it, too (though Brazilians on average seem to do it more often).

Here's what would be the respectable thing to do:

A. Don't take the fight if you can't train because of injuries suffered in your last fight.

B. If you need the money and have to take the fight, just stop at "we didn't have enough time to prepare." Everybody knows you took the fight on short notice.

Throwing in the altitude bullshit just makes you seem like an excuse maker who can't accept fault for his own mistakes.

He's missed weight, what, four or five times in his UFC career? Yeah, I think he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

He should weigh less because of the altitude, certainly not 10 lbs extra. Didn't bother to read what they said but I cba for more bs.
Was stoked on Oliveira for a while..kinda been bummed with him since the Holloway fight

Every fighter who misses weight should be forced to fight up a weight class next time.

And they could at least tell their opponent, to save them cutting.

5th time this guy misses weigh, come on...
and he loses every time he faces a top fighter but here we are almost in 2020 and fans (plus do bronx himself) are claiming he's being held back by the UFC. When he gets what he wants and loses embarrassingly again I wonder how many years it will take before it begins over again. People talk about him as if he's a monster on the ground, like we all forgot the Felder fight :D

i'd rather they just end weight-cutting. Stupid, dangerous, and deprives fans of an athlete's best performance.

Leigh @Leigh do you know anything about flying making the cut more difficult? people sometimes say it fucks with your weight. not sure how that would work. never understood what was going on.

It's never affected me but I have had other fighters tell me they hold water when they fly. It might be totally true, although in my experience some fighters make a lot of excuses. I'm always careful to plan my weight cuts with bi daily targets and flying didn't stop me from meeting them.

Agreed but how would you do that?

nice one and fair play to you on the never making excuses thing. remember noting that when you previously discussed having injuries going into fights, but purposefully never said which ones.

Like Barbosa too. Love watching that dude turn guy's legs into mashed taters but he always chokes when it matters. Grinds my gears...

why is it funny? it should get both guys in the fight at the same weight. eliminating the advantage guys think they get by cutting. why would you continue to cut weight when it wouldnt be an advantage anymore? get in the best shape you can and fight that weight.
