eh I thought it was enjoyable but pointless and unremarkable. The same “ode to cinema” motto and over the top violent closure as Inglorious Basterds. plus the Coen bros. basically did the same movie a couple years ago (Hail Caesar) with more inspiration.

Once upon a time... must be really special for movie addicts and people who lived in Hollywood in the late 60’s. I’m sure there are thousands of eastern eggs that I didn’t notice.
Why have I never watched Hail Caesar? Ok I'll sort that out this week.

I have a habit of falling asleep in cinemas even during really loud movies so I was chuffed I didn't during this, I didn't know about the Manson stuff before going so that had me when I realised too. For a 3.5 hour or however long it was movie, the time flew by.

Margot Robbie and Brad were brilliant I thought. Looking forward to watching at home again.

Uncut Gems 5/5

Adam Sandler does a serious role every decade. And this one is like the others. It's amazing.
Absolute near perfect tragedy that we'll make you cringe and beg for mercy from beginning to end.
Former Playboy model and fashion designer Julia Fox is absolutely the breakout star here and proves she's a hell of an artist.

Go see it when you need some pain in your life and a great movie.
Is it a tear jerker or just cringe? He has me by the balls sometimes tear jerker wise, I wish I'd never bought Click, I was in bits for about an hour after.

You sure it’s that long? I know The Irishman is 3.5 hours long and people are still freaking out about it . There is literally no mention of it without stressing how long it is while with Once upon a time I don’t recall it. iirc it’s ~2 hours long.

and are you familiar with the Coen brothers work? If so don’t expect Hail Caesar to be anywhere close to their best work. At the same time if you’re not you might get put off by the slow pace and quirkiness. it’s just a pointless movie about movies.

Just checked, it was 2 hours 40, I got mixed up. Yeah Irishman was 3.5 hours but I was on a long flight watching that so I was quite happy having something to do. Also a Scorsese nut so I was gagging to watch it.

I get the "ode to" movie stuff you mean. I just can't wait for Tarantio to make another movie with Brad and Leo in again, they were perfect together. I am familiar with Coens, they're so brilliant they've caused so many copycats I frequently have to check IMDB when watching something assuming it's them.

Once Upon a Time made my mind up that Robbie is my favourite actress. Yes she's obviously hot af but she's so good as well. Loved her in that. I need to watch the ice skating flick.

Whoever it was I was chatting with the other day saying Brad won't get a nod because he's so pretty. Found out just now he got an Oscar for producing 12 Years a Slave. K, it wasn't for acting.

Hopefully he gets a Globe tonight.

If he doesn’t get an Oscar while he’s young he’ll end up getting one for an average work when he’s old enough.

Which would be a real pity.
I probably have a bit of a bee in my bonnet recently since again realising how brilliant he is and I'll get over it haha.
I know you weren't that enamoured or hating it per se but I absolutely loved Once Upon, I didn't think Inglorious could have been beaten as my favourite Tarantino movie but I walked out of the cinema with a pep in my step.

over reservoir dogs and pulp fiction (and true romance written not directed)??

Yeah I know. Not being edgy, I just really got that movie. The rest were awesome too albeit it taking me a couple of watches to like Reservior.
I couldn't work out why anyone was going mental about it to begin with. Same thing happened with The Crow for years.

It was a massive wank from start to finish.

This was the beginning of the end for Quentin.

Just trolling the audience and showing off. There are about nine genres of films in there from westerns, film noir, gangster to musicals and everything in between. And it detracts from the story. Weak as it is. It’s just a series of scenes.

The film is a mess only marginally saved by the performance of the actors. Christopher Waltz is brilliant.

Splints is spot on. QT has only made or been involved in 3 or 4 really good films. He’s a lot of hype imo.

Wank as in up itself or rubbish?

I was mental for it from start to finish. How can you not adore Eli Roth playing a mental with a baseball bat? Come on.

Is cursing, racist dialogue and over the top violence not your motherfucking cup of tea?

Only movies of QT I dont really care for are the kill bills and death proof.
I love how Tarantino builds really uncomfortable tension, which is mostly done through dialogue.

I’ve nay sin that one lassie
Ok. Case in point, the director had his hand in his drawers thinking Oscar Oscar.

Michael Fassbender went through the same bollocks with a director when he was in a prison movie and he was smearing nasty stuff all up the walls.
