With Dustin Poirier fully recovered from injury, ‘The Diamond’ is looking to return to the UFC as soon as possible, and what better opponent than Justin Gaethje?

Poirier, 30, beat Gaethje via fourth-round TKO in a Fight of the Night classic back at UFC on FOX 29 in 2018, and the top-three lightweight contender is willing to run things back with ‘The Highlight’ at UFC 249, which is set to feature a headlining lightweight title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

Poirier would like to fight Gaethje in the UFC 249 co-main event.

I'd take this rematch, knowing anytime these two guys match up it's going to be a war.

Of course he is "open" to fighting someone he has already ko'd.

I imagine their first fight took a couple of years off their career if not lives. I respect the balls on these guys to face each other again, because they are pretty evenly matched and you know neither has an ounce of give in them. While nothing for the first fight calls for a rematch, it is a gift for the fans. Also, these guys are currently ranked 2 & 3. It makes a strong case for a #1 contender bout (although there are a few guys who are in contention and all behind Conor if he beats Cowboy, like it or not). Also, by not fighting guys further down the pecking order, they ensure that even with a loss their ranking won't take a major hit and keep them one fight away from the mix again.

I want to see how Conor Cowboy plays out before this. I'd rather see if Conor could put his money where his mouth is and find a way to deal with Gaethje's constant pressure and ridiculous leg kicks.

If love to see Conor vs Gaethje as well. Just not sure it’ll ever happen.

If Gaethje fights Poirier I think the chances of it happening will decrease. It won't hurt anyone to wait a bit to see how things play out.

Gaethje's manager would have had to have taken more shots to the head than Justin himself if he signed off on that fight.

I think Justin would win the rematch. He's a changed fighter, only slightly, but it's enough. In the first fight I thought Dustin was done on the stool ahead of the 4th round.

But I've been wrong before,

And ill be wrong again.
