Widely considered the welterweight GOAT, just about every newly-crowned UFC welterweight champion dreams of defending his title against Georges St-Pierre, and Kamaru Usman is no different.

Speaking to MMA Fighting in a recent interview Usman, who recently beat Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington in back-to-back title fights, said he would love to fight St-Pierre and break the French-Canadian’s record for most consecutive wins at welterweight.

“Think about that fight. Georges St-Pierre has the record, I’m coming for the record and in order for me to break the record, I fight him for the record,” Usman said. “I can’t think of a better way to get…

GSP is certainly Top 3 GOAT, but I wouldn't like his chances against Usman at 38 yrs old & being off for as long as he has.

I like Usman and I know it's popular to think the current champ is less beatable than not but...I see Usman suffering from terrible head movement and getting jabbed to death by GSP. I don't see Usman out wrassling GSP either, even given how old GSP is. I think it's a risky fight for Marty IMHO.

I agree with this. GSP's age is the only thing Usman has going for him. It is a massive advantage, but an unknown one.

what is in it for GSP? georges is only interested in superfights and big money fights. usman doesnt bring much to the table here.GSP is rich. he doesnt have to fight anybody ever again. i dont see a fight vs usman being able to light a fire under his ass and get him back in the ring for espn+ and reebok money

Looks like GSP’s Bullshit-itis is about to flare up again ...unfortunatly he will not be able to accept this fight.

Pretty wise to for Marty to call out GSP. He’s the best ever, old, and has been sitting for a long time. If he can beat GSP he would try to consider himself a legend as well. I get why he’s doing it, but as someone said, there’s no reason for GSP to do it. This fight is not a needle mover and does 0 for his legacy.

On another note, i think Marty is all fucked up from those years of Rasslin. I think he told Rogan that he has to walk backwards down steps because his knees and back are shot. If he can string 3 figures together in 2020 he will probably retire in 2021.

Why would he?
Why wouldn’t he?

He was the Welterweight Champ for how many years? That was his division ....when he came back, instead of going after his Welterweight belt he chose the easier path with a fight with Bisping to try and pad his record.

Now instead of defending the Middleweight Title or go after his Welterweight Title he is positioning himself for a fight with either Khabib or Conor ....again trying to take the easiest path to illusionary greatness.

GSP wants nothing to do with the Welterweights or Middleweights of this era ....

Short version is Usman is beneath him, is a relatively weak draw and GSP and does nothing to move George's needle. You don't go from WW GOAT status then move up in weight after a 3+ year layoff to get another title to then go back to WW to fight a guy with one title defense when you're almost 40. If Usman had some level of star power that would help sell a huge show maybe but he's nowhere near that.

Explain how Khabib is an easy path for anyone.

Then why's he trying to get a fight with Khabib?
Enock-O-Lypse Now! @ENOCK is one of my forum favs but his conspiracy posts make more sense than his disdain for GSP. I mean if it just criticism of his fighting style or being French I'd understand more but all the stuff like the above is insane.

There is a clip floating around the interwebz where GSP adamantly says: “I am a smart man!”

That has stuck with me over the years mainly because he is “trying” to be smart about his legacy by cherry picking what he feels is the easiest path to greatness.

From a Business standpoint of him building up his image of being the greatest ever and making money off that “illusion” then I’d agree with GSP being a very smart man.

But from a hardcore fans perspective I see right through his facade ...I know he is avoiding the true best of the best and that will forever stay with him.

What WW didn't he fight during his reign at 170?

Khabib is a 155 Lightweight Champ not 170 Welterweight.

GSP will have the size advantage over Khabib and is confident his jab will carry him in a stand up brawl with Khabib ...

As for Usman - Usman is the same size - better wrestler / striker and in his absolute EPO prime!

After assessing which is a better matchup and what gives him a better chance of winning ..GSP is selecting the smaller Khabib over the same sized opponent in Usman.

For the most part GSP took on all the top challengers at Welterweight during his run with the exception of rematching Hendricks after his gift decision win over Jonny by the Judges.

Once Hendricks gave him a beat down GSP knew the division had caught up and he no longer had an advantage so caught the red eye out of dodge.

Lol! well done!

....but come on La Paix @BirdWatcher GSP didn’t come back when Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman or Luke Rockhold were Champs ...

He waited till Bisping pulled off the hailmarry upset of Rockhold before he decided to comeback and fight Bisping.

I gave GSP rounds 1-2...he looked fairy good against the washed up One Eyed Brit....

I still to this day think GSP was gassing and Bisping was starting to tune him up ....unfortunately for Bisping his one eyed vision prevented him from seeing that setup from GSP.
