Watch this documentary on amazon prime. I remember hearing about this policy before but this documentary talks about it in great detail. Amazing how they brainwashed so many people and some of them STILL believe that it was the right thing to do. Cliff notes: China said families could only have one kid and SEVERELY punished (forced sterilization, tire down their homes...) those who had more than one. This went on for 30 years and just recently changed to allow for 2 kids.
