My car has been in the shop for a few days. Took forever for anyone to even come and get it to see what was wrong but I'm still no further forward. Spoke to the guy earlier but he can't seem to find out what the problem is.

Mini Cooper S, 2009 model. Nothing fancy.

I reversed it out of my garage fine but then couldn't put it into gear. The clutch pedal was stuck to the floor so I had to lift it up with my hand. It worked for like 20 feet or so and the same thing happened so I put it back in the garage.

If anyone's in the car industry any advice would be gratefully received.

It's a bad clutch, possibly clutch cable and/or clutch plate.
That is if things still work like they used to.
It's a mini problem.

I don't know why it's such a fucking issue to diagnose but he's scratching his head about it days later. He said he hasn't seen anything like it in 40 years. Ugh.

How many more times do you want to say this?

I've only ever had 2 automatics, and I've had a lot of cars. Again, British, remember? Having a "stick" is normal.
Stop grinding the fukn clutch down. Maybe get a man to teach you

Sounds like your clutch master cylinder failed we’re you able to pump it to get it to work?

Try pumping you're clutch and see if you can build pressure to shift:

Or maybe blew a line on your clutch circuit:..no fluid on the ground right?

Knew my TMMAC signature would come in handy at some point, numbnuts.

I definitely rag the fuck out of Minis because you can and they're fun but I haven't really fucked this one into oblivion, it's just old. Point is, I don't know why it's taking so long to even diagnose what the issue is if, like he says, he's been a mechanic for so long.

A friend just sent me a link where someone had the same issue and they suggested it might be a gearbox issue which has ne even more worried. There's no clutch fluid leaking so it isn't that.

No, I checked for fluid.

I didn't pump it, after I realised the pedal was stuck to the floor I pulled it back up, got it onto the road then it happened again so I put it back into the garage. Not risking breaking down on a highway around here.

Ya I have seen a failure similar to this and it was the clutch master cylinder but we were able to shift it by pumping the clutch 50 times before we could shift/get it in gear.

See what your auto tech thinks but if he is a good tech he might have checked that.

Take your left foot off the clutch after changing gears. You're grinding the fucking thing down

I just called him back to suggest it and he’s checked the master and slave cylinder and they’re apparently both fine.

Just need it sorted, get the brakes done and then sell it to buy a more adult car.

I have found that in my experience successful and attractive woman drive the new mini.

It's a good look. Take a spanner to the mechanics faces and make them fix the fucker tout suite.

Just buy an automatic. Stick shifts are too complicated for the female brain
First car I bought when I moved to the US was a Fusion automatic because Fords are generally reliable.
The Mini in Bay Area traffic is a nightmare which I should have considered. Especially with low suspension and pot holes all over the place. It was an emotional impulse purchase rather than something I gave a great deal of thought to.

I can't imagine driving a stick shift in SF. All those fucking hills with stop signs right at the top.

And I'm a man
