DNC Changes Debate Requirements, Frustrating Some 2020 Democrats
The Democratic National Committee is revising the criteria that 2020 candidates must meet to qualify for upcoming primary debates, including one that it will sponsor in Nevada on February 19. In an announcement on Friday, the organization said it would double the polling threshold and eliminate donor requirements, a move that could pave the way for outlier candidates like former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg -- who has been functionally barred from previous debates because he has refused to take donations from other individuals -- to make it on to the stage.


Coverage of the news has focused largely on the details of the policy change as well as the ensuing responses from primary candidates, many of whom have criticized the organization for altering the rules so late into the process.
