If you liked the first one, there is a second Tom Rush tune at the top of Page 4, and you may like that one also (another Texas themed tune, Galveston Flood).

Tom was a bit underappreciated in my opinion, but he has some really great tunes. A number of years ago now, but late in his career, he covered the classic song Drift Away that Dobie Gray made famous. This isn't a Texas tune, but to keep this thread on theme, here is a little tidbit about Tom:

His main guitar for most of his career was a mid-60s model Epiphone "Texan" model. These were great guitars, and I think they quit making them in the early 70s. He made them sound wonderful.

It looks like all his stuff is on Amazon. I gave that first album a listen to and it wasn’t half bad. I gotta say I’m really liking his 1970 self-entitled album, especially Lost My Drivin’ Wheel.

...and it’s a Texas tune.

You know, I gotta say that I was initially a bit disappointed. I thought for sure that our most prominent Texan and admin Splinty @Splinty was going to drop some tunes in here.

But upon further research, I found out that Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus don’t have any songs about Texas :D
Sorry man, been a really hard week here.
I love the thread and will contribute a little bit later.

heard Alejandro on the radio today, remembered that he's from Texas

Fun Fact:

He met Ryan Adams in Nashville and collaborated on the Stranger's Almanac album.
(He sings on my one of my favorite Whiskeytown song)

I'll add my boy Dale Watson. He showed up to the Continental in Austin after a 27 hr travel day from France on the anniversary of Elvis's death. He went on 2 hours late, there was maybe 10 people in the bar when they finally showed up.

He played 3 1/2 hours and closed the place down

last one for tonight.

The Reverend Horton Heat. Never a bad show, and I've seen him a bunch.

no worries my man, I was just yanking your chain :)

Not sure what all you’ve had going on, but I can at least somewhat relate to having a rough week. The past month has been overly hectic and crazy. My work/life balance has gotten to a point that it’s affecting my health and well being.

And on that note, thanks to all contributing in here. This thread was a welcome distraction last night, and I needed something to get my mind off of work. Y’all are great and this thread has been fun!

when I first moved to Austin, Dale was still doing his weekly spot at the Continental. Think it was every Thursday night. I didn’t go every week, but I saw him a bunch there. Was a good time to go have a few beers and enjoy.

I always think of Redd Volkaert when I think of Austin. According to wiki, Redd plays with the house band on Sunday's at the Continental.
But I used to catch him playing during chickenshit bingo at Ginny's.

Fun Fact: Ginny gave me a t-shirt because I kept the tent over the beer stand from blowing off in the back parking lot. Let me drink free, too - but I was getting over a cold so I didn't maximize the value. :)

the shirt says "No Hasslin, No Wrasslin, No Cussin, No Fussin"

best part about Redd is that he just plays. Doesn't try to take over the room or establish a presence.
and he plays truck-drivin songs.

Great call! I hadn’t thought about Redd for this thread yet. He’s another local legend, has been playing around Austin for decades. I saw him a number of times at bars years ago, but then not for a long time. And then a couple of years ago I saw him at a little bar in Buda (small town just south). There were only like 15 people there, but in a way it was pretty awesome. He was just shooting the shit with anyone that wanted to chat in between songs. He is an incredible guitarist.

great addition.
