As he seeks a rematch with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman later this year, Colby Covington is currently taking aim at some celebrity detractors, who couldn’t help but dance on his grave after he suffered a fifth-round TKO loss this past December.

After a back and forth war for more than 20 minutes, Covington ultimately got knocked down and finished by Usman in their bout at UFC 245.

Afterwards, hip-hop star 50 Cent blasted Covington while calling him a “racist piece of sh*t” while celebrating the fact that he got his jaw broken during the fight. Actress Rosie O’Donnell also chimed in while saying that she enjoyed watching Covington “limp out with a broken jaw.”

This routine has gotten stale Colby. Also, even though 50 is a legit mogul these days... He still has street people, the kind that bury dudes like Colby, so aaaaaah, Colby needs to watch his mouth before he ends up separate and packed into cases of Vitamin Water LOL

I like the Colby character. But he never actually 'talked' his way into a title fight and has never headlined some massive PPV like say Chael. He was the legit contender and Dana didn't even like him for most of his career, so the character never actually worked in his favor in terms of matchmaking.

In Colby's entire UFC career he has earned a bit over 1.4 million dollars (including Reebok and bonuses), most of which he got from his two title fights. That goes back to 2014. So basically he has earned about $230,000-250,000 on average a year because of his UFC career. That's not bad money, and I'm sure he has other revenue streams, but when you consider all of the extra expenses fighters have as well, he's hardly a billionaire.

So was the character really worth it? The guy is despised by a lot of people, and while it has given him fame, it seems to have added minimal financial value to him. It would have opened some doors, but also closed others and it may hurt future endeavors.

I think this next decade will answer your question.

However WW is a competitive af division right now. There are guys with 7-8 wins who are probably still 2 wins away from a title shot.

IMO Colby has to do something to stick out. He may have done it in a way that closes doors, but I think it helped him to the interim and actual title shots he got.

Look at guys like Leon Edwards and Santiago Ponzinibbio. Guys are fucking killing it and should be next in line for title shots. Hell I’d have though Edwards should be a star in the making in the UK. But they aint

Ponz is MIA and his best wins are Magny and Gunnar. He needed to do more and certainly is nowhere near it now. Edwards really does struggle to stand out even after the Masvidal incident and has a good resume, so that is a good point.

The gimmick comes across as fake and forced.there are plenty of mma fighters who are legit maga fanboys and they still act like a normal human being.colby is acting like a caricature of an 0G poster and a fake jackass

50 and Colby are both scum so I'd love them to meet in a UFC 1 style moat with alligators and tumble to their deaths while a confused audience cheers them on.

What an interesting thought. I agree his schtick seemed forced and has probably pissed off people enough that they won't want to associate with him in the future, and it not like he became the antihero I'm sure he wanted to be.

Wild @Wild have you reached out to him? It would be interesting to see his take on all of this
