How will that affect you?

What does this mean for your job? Do you have reserves for that period of time? What kind of input from others or government or your work would be enough to have you weather that storm?

Here in Canada, those unable to continue working will be partially financially covered by our employment insurance system.

Taxes have been delayed.

The interest rate has been slashed to .75%.

Tax rebates and child benefit taxes kick backs are being increased.

Major banks will allow home owners to miss mortgage payments for six months.

Student loan interest is being waved.

it is fucked
I have some cushion due to my low overhead and frugal lifestyle

many do not

For the sake of all I think we need to send some of that MIC Trillion dollars of Bomb/Arms money to the population...it will obviously go back into the economy in this time of need for so many people.

I am fortunate. Maybe about 30% of the work force at my company was chosen to work remotely and I was one of them.

I just hope the national parks stay open. That will be my getaway from self-confinement on weekends.

I’ve been thinking a lot about best way to prepare for a few weeks of lockdown. I’m not talking security wise but more entertainment and productivity.

I went out yesterday and bought a truck load of compost and soil for the garden some seeds a few yard related purchases for projects I want to complete. Some lumber.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to make this few weeks the most productive they can?

I hope they do the mortgage thing here too. We have an empty house that we have been trying to sell, it’s supposed to close on Friday. If that falls through, I’m not making any more mortgage payments on it. #WalkAway.

I hope others will keep a running tab of our social interventions in here too.
It looks like there will be two 250 billion dollar check if it's coming out over the next month.
That's 700 bucks at American but the checks are expected to be scaled to family size and income so they don't have their skills yet to know how much per average family..

There’s a thread about this very topic, come check it out. I’m painting the interior of our house.

It will affect me zero. I have a bunch of money in checking account, lots of food and guns. Not having the gym and haircuts are all that will affect me. I could last the rest of the year w the food I have I did pretty good.
If this gets serious I can eat a pack of tuna a day.

Sucks not being able to visit my grammy

Exactly where I am.
I rent so I had to call the homeowner and tell her I intend to rip up her beautiful useless lawn & turn it into a self-sustaining paradise.
I ripped out her cherry tree years ago and turned it into a 20x10 flat garden, but I need to build a compost pile setup.
Also I'm thinking some pallet vertical runs of strawberries & cucumbers & such, so I gotta get some pallets, which are great because everyone loves free.

I've been wanting to build a chicken coup, but the dogs next door, along with a local pack of coyotes, squirrels, raccoons, oppossums and my cat will have me building security measures. We can only have 6 chickens in my area by code, but that's six more than I've ever had.
Should produce well and teach my ARY caretaking that a mom would've.

I've been watching a ton of gardening videos & love this guy to death.

Beyond that, I'll be doing what I love to do, top secret security measures & booby traps.

Although people act like the sky is falling, there are times in life you look back and treasure, as a turning point.
That is how the world needs to be right now. Boom time always happens after a won war. This could be, should be, the most therapeutic time of our generation.

Neither of us working and extortionate rent in the Bay Area is a massive cause for concern. So yes, really affected already.

I think I probably have enough food and essentials for 3 weeks. I have to go out on Friday so I'll grab some more non perishable items again then.

4 weeks seems pretty short.

I've closed my gym. I work from home as an engineer, so I'll be ok there. Just negotiating lower rent with the landlord for my empty gym.

4 weeks is the hard shutdown based on modeling. There's some taper. After that so probably 8 weeks of stuff total but 4 weeks is the run up and the hardest time so that's why I mentioned that.
