Me too. I watched 1-12 I think, then watched the ultimate fighter on tv, then started going to bars to watch ppvs. Been an avid fan since tuf1, went back and watched all the dark era UFC's from 15-50 and pride.I remember seeing some of the early fights on VHS but didn't really get into it until the first season of TUF.
I didn’t get this alertbadass
what was the two guys in ponytails/longhair fight?
that one was memorable because of the humor of some hair pulling.
I think it was pretty early in UFC history
@MMAHAWK you ever seen the longhair early ufc fight?
Ya that was the 1st or 2nd one I saw live...some rich kid kept getting them and we would go over to eat his food and watch the spectacle of early UFC...no idea how he knew they were onI didn’t get this alert
I’m assuming your referring to UFC 4 Guy Mezger vs Jason Fairn
It was a single bout that was supposed to give the winner a slot in UFC 5
thanks@Inside Job
Here’s a classic hair pulling bout from World Combat Championship
This event was the world’s introduction to Renzo Gracie

I will forever remember the round ending with sherk bloody on the ground, BJ looked at him, pointed, and yelled "YOU'RE DONE!!" And sherk was like yeah, and the ref waved the fight off.saw UFC 1, was around 14 in high school. thought it was bad ass but forgot about it.
then friend of mine showed me dvd, BJ Penn vs Hughes 1, I bet on a wrestler to win but smaller BJ took him out quick. I started to get curious but forgot about it.
was working for a Korean Newspaper, friend of mine who is a hardcore fan, convinced me to get a media pass for Dong Hyun "StunGun" Kim's debut vs Jason Tan, and it was on prelims. UFC granted us the media pass, we flew to Vegas, I got a cageside seat at the media table.
the event featured, Machida, Tito, Sokoju, Wanderlei, Thiago Silva, Shane Carwin, Keith Jardine, Paul Harris, but didn't know who was who at the time and topped off by BJ Penn vs Sean Sherk and I remembered BJ from the dvd. I was pretty close from the corner where BJ threw that epic knee.
BJ Penn is pretty much the reason.
I'm so sad for the way he is these days...
at the time, I didn't even know the whole back story of Sherk popping for roids and BJ's LW comebacks.I will forever remember the round ending with sherk bloody on the ground, BJ looked at him, pointed, and yelled "YOU'RE DONE!!" And sherk was like yeah, and the ref waved the fight off.
SoUFC 1 on the hotbox with Dad is an awesome memory I'll keep forever.
Renzo stepping on beaten opponent - Pat Smith with those elbows - Tank giving a man a seizure - Gary Goodrich with those other elbows
When gloves, weight classes and additional rules were added I began to lose interest in what had increasingly become a sport as opposed to a legitimate test of fighting skill. Chuck and Tito's rivalry eventually brought me back, while Pride FC and MMA Weekly forums cemented me as a fan until this day.
In like 2001 I got a call from a strange number, I answered and it was Paul Herrera. I think he’d gotten my name and number through the grapevine of people buying larger amounts of tickets for mma fights in SoCal. He was putting on a show and wanted to know if I was interested in supporting it. Every second of a couple calls this image is all that kept running through my mind. It made it so hard to talk about the fights because I was so used to talking to fighters about the highlights of their careers. When your career is the most brutal 13 second KO in the sports history it’s a hard ice breaker.I was at a party and some dudes went to the back to watch fights on a VHS tape. The guy who brought the tape told me that if I watch it, it will ruin boxing for me. When Art Jimmerson came out with one boxing glove I said there's the winner of the tournament, he's a boxer. What's that other guy gonna do to him. I was pretty into it for a few years then I lost interest until sometime early in the 2000's.
This was my favorite moment of the early days:
that will always be my favorite UFC moment...maybe Kampmann's arm triangle on McFedries. In like 2001 I got a call from a strange number, I answered and it was Paul Herrera.
