I got a mandatory call back from work today to make sand bags because of the flood forecast. This has been deemed an essential service and I have no choice. My kids are home and I've been looking after them while my nurse wife works. If I don't go back I'll lose seniority in the union and most likely lose my position for the summer.
The government is telling everyone to stay home and keep social distance. I work for the government and am being forced back to work by people in human resources that are working from home.
I haven't seen my or my wifes parents (they are old and in the high risk group) for 3 weeks now because we do not want to risk our families health. I now have to risk them because I need day care for my daughter.

The first woman that called me from human resources was so freaked out by my reaction she had someone else call back.
I was pretty pissed off that they would threaten my seniority during a quarantine and let her have it. I told her that I couldn't believe she could have the audicity to phone me from home and order me back to work when the government (who she works for) was telling us to be socially distant and had shut down the schools and daycares that my kids would normally be at. The worst part is that people were kept employed for a month after they were laid off last year to destroy the sand bags that had been made in the spring.
I was met with a whole bunch of silence on that 10 minute call / diatribe.
I'm not mad that I need to go back to work, I understand that flood preparations have to be made. I'm mad that they gave me less that 24 hours notice and threatened my seniority.
I'm glad my kid is old enough, not gonna lie. And the wife works from home safely. I do still work however. You never would want to bring something home.
