Here the only footage I’m aware so far. Play stops and two players are in a heated exchange. #15 in white follows Suban and I’ll let you guys decipher the rest. The victim here is an NHLers little brother so it’s getting lots of attention.

I had to watch the footage multiple times to even see what the problem was. Link below is what’s being reported by most sports media outlets.

Here’s #15 explaining his side.

As of now Panetta has been suspended from his team and the league indefinitely.

i dont know what he meant by it

but if you aren't racist, just go on camera and say so. dont read a scripted response in a monotone voice. because it came across as inauthentic lol

if he is not a racist, then he's a dum-dum

So one guy makes monkey gesture and the other guy punches him? Dude who did the punching should be suspended.

Guesture are illegal now and acting like a animal is praised as social justice?

It dont make any sense. I like that they are allowed to fight but that seems a step above words and gestures. If ones legal so should the other

If this wasn't a sport where fighting is actually viewed as part of the spectacle, then you'd be correct. Any footballer or tennis player who waded in fists first would get a suspension too.

Can you think of an example where this approach has worked?
i cant think of any example of either type working or not working

i dont particularly care enough about random strangers to store that type of stuff in memory

i do stand by the fact that if someone accused me of being racist, i would go on camera and say a bunch of random words. and it would be clear that im not racist

unless i accidentally said something racist. in that case, who knows

Haven't watched the video and don't particularly care so could have the wrong end of the stick entirely, but.......

Don't ever look at a black person during a confrontation/argument, and make monkey noises or gestures or references at them. Don't ever do it for any reason, under any circumstances. The second you do, then you are the cunt and you forfeit your right to complain about getting an aggressive response. End of story.

I don't see anything.
Wouldn't surprise me but.
I caught the story twice on highlights but didn’t pay close attention. When it played again I watched closely and didn’t even catch the taunt but that could be because of shitty camera work.

If Panetta has any history of racism or is known to push the boundaries on the ice then go after him for sure. I haven’t heard any reports on any racist language during the stand off yet so I’m having a hard time seeing the outrage being justified. I mean in almost every sport you can see people doing the exact same thing countless times. Sometimes done after KOing a guy, sometimes done after dunking on someone.

How many racist on the bench here?

No reports of any noises so far. #15 made a point of saying so in that tweet and it hasn’t been refuted yet so we’ll see.

Yeah I'm not taking a firm stance on this one. Not watching the video either, particularly since it seems impossible to see/hear what was going on, anyway.

But yeah, more as a general statement - monkey noises or gestures or references towards a black person during a confrontation is vile, and if someone does it, there's no grounds for defending them or making excuses for them.

It's very difficult to see the supposed gesture, presumably in today's world there will have been at least 50 people filming that on their phones though (possibly whilst yelling "wuuuurrrlllssstaaaaarrr"), and we will get a better angle.

Freedom of speech and expression is a thing. If some black guy said some honkey joke or something I cant punch him legally. Maybe morally it would pass

Yep.

So is not going out of your way to make the choice to be a racist cunt.

I'm far from a woke warrior type, but this is not any kind of equivalent. It's freedom of expression to go to a football game and throw bananas in the direction of black players, guess what? That makes you a vile cunt and you are in the wrong and should GTFO, end of story.

But as I said, I haven't watched the video so I am offering no judgement on this particular incident at all. ?

Fighting is a part of hockey, the idea being let the players keep each other in check. Any sort of prejudice should be stomped out and not be compared to the physical aspect of the game.

While I understand this would be in poor taste(and a fake photo I'm assuming) it wouldnt justify a attack on the person with the banana.

People need to stop being pussies. You dont get to physically attack someone because your feelings are hurt.

Making monkey noises or gestures at a black player during a sports game is pretty much asking to get your ass beat right there. If I was a black guy's teammate and an opposing player did that to him, I would be ready to fight over it. That shit is vile.

I'm all for fighting. But the possibility of koing someone and them falling bad on ice and someone doing some racial gesture have very different possible endgames. One can result in death and the other in hurt feelings. So it's not unfair to think a violent reaction was an overreaction regardless of sport.

I agree there shouldn't be any racial shit in sports but a gesture should be countered with violence. That's actually adding to the stereotype that could have been used by the white player

So what if it's a women. If some girl throws a banana is it ok for lebron james to knock her teeth out?

I see what you are saying. But in the context of a sports game, deliberately choosing to go out of your way to hammer the "you're just a fucking monkey, not even a human" button in a bullshit confrontation with a black opponent on a sports field? That's so far out of line that it's a natural reaction for a young guy to immediately want to fight you right there. That's the exact reaction you're trying to provoke. What else are you doing with those gestures? Sending a message you really believe?

The league is taking it seriously.
Imo it merits harsh disciplinary action and stiff fines. A reaction that sends a clear message.

Sure, and that's appropriate.

But then you got a bunch of early to mid twenties alpha male type guys, all hopped up on adrenaline and machismo and team cameraderie and testosterone in the moment. ?
