Ronda was, and still is a great fighter, the most memorable female fighter MMA has ever known. This cannot be denied.
What Joe, Dana, etc have used these exaggerations to paint an unreaslitic picture a fighter could never live up to. And we are witnessing the backtracking of this. Maybe even the downplaying of Holly's accomplishment. The better prepared fighter? So Ronda wasn't prepared? How about just, the better fighter. Is that so hard to admit after having attached your idealistic attributes (and possible your ego) to describe Ronda?
After the fact it is easy to downplay one's accomplishments, and this shouldn't be done in Ronda's case. But in that process, do not downplay Holly's accomplishment by striking down that unbeatable, half-goddess, Ronda Rousy. That idea of Ronda is their creation, and they've seen that fail last weekend.
She was the Mike Tyson of MMA, the most dominant athlete of the world, She could beat any woman anytime, anywhere! Drunk on these words, Dana and co. are coming down and waking up with a Ronda hangover. And that is ok. Ronda has written WMMA history, I get it. She fell from their own homemade pedestal, not ours, and that should explain this essay from Joe.
