Really Werdum would be considered a Pride guy.Werdum and Lawler were both with the UFC long before Strike force was ever around and cut because of losing streaks.
Hendo lost both his title fights coming into the UFC so there's 2 belts right there. Are we considering Anderson a Pride fighter since he had a few fights before going to Cage Rage prior to joining the UFC?When Pride was folded into the ufc, Pride guys took every belt they had in common with the ufc. Strikeforce fighters (at the time dana was mocking them) have come in and taken every belt from lightweight to heavyweight. People should eventually learn 2 things from this: 1. The ufc was never the "major leagues" as the zombies like to throw out constantly, results actually show they were the minor leagues up until they brought in the real major league fighters from Pride and Strikeforce. 2. They suck at building new talent. They just keep buying other orgs and taking their stars but now they are out of orgs to buy.
Don't forget WEC which was at the time referred to as the minor leagues. Since then, Condit became interim champ and is about to have his 2nd title fight, Bendo and Pettis have both been LW champs, Aldo was the long reigning FW champ and Cruz is still unbeaten BW champ. When Pride was folded into the ufc, Pride guys took every belt they had in common with the ufc. Imeant to put WEC In there as well but forgot.Don't forget WEC which was at the time referred to as the minor leagues. The UFC became the best through mergers and acquisitions and marketing their brand. There was always enough talent to sustain a diverse MMA landscape.
Great points! When Pride was folded into the ufc, Pride guys took every belt they had in common with the ufc. They're at home, deciding where to put their UFC titles on their mantleGreat points!
Where is Strikeforce now?
Didn't pettis lose to clay guida in his first ufc fight? Those guys are doing well now but when they were coming over and considered wec guys they didn't do so well at first. Lets face it, they came to the ufc and had to get better to fightDon't forget WEC which was at the time referred to as the minor leagues. One guy "lost" one fight where he dominated but top control was counted infinitely more than sub attempts and damage so they all had to get better to compete there? Um, alright. *eyeroll*Didn't pettis lose to clay guida in his first ufc fight? Those guys are doing well now but when they were coming over and considered wec guys they didn't do so well at first. They didn't come right over and compete for titles. They had multiple fights before fighting the top tier ufc guys. Of course they were going to get better. What happened to mike brown and uriah since coming over? One guy "lost" one fight where he dominated but top control was counted infinitely more than sub attempts and damage so they all had to get better to compete there? Um, alright. *eyeroll*
Yeah, they had to win a few fights because people were so deluded they thought ufc guys were going to crush the wec cans, which didn't happen. Nothing happened to Mike Brown or Uriah since they came over, they were already losing in the wec before the merger. They didn't come right over and compete for titles. Condit had 6 ufc fights before he was interim champ and got schooled by GSP. His first ufc fight was a loss to Kampmann. By the time he got to fight for the title he was a ufc guy. Since he lost his first ufc fight it would be expected he would get better. What has he done since being I terim champ except lose every high profile fight he has been in.Yeah, they had to win a few fights because people were so deluded they thought ufc guys were going to crush the wec cans, which didn't happen. Nothing happened to Mike Brown or Uriah since they came over, they were already losing in the wec before the merger.
This is one of the better posts I've read since our inception here. Well done sir. Preach. When Pride was folded into the ufc, Pride guys took every belt they had in common with the ufc. For starters, Davis hasn't won that title yet.To say these guys came over and competed right away just isn't true, most of them had multiple fights and losses before becoming UFC champs. Name one strikeforce or WEC guy that came over and did to the UFC what Phil Davis is doing to the Bellator 205 division right now.

100%!!!!When Pride was folded into the ufc, Pride guys took every belt they had in common with the ufc. Out of all those fighters you mentioned you got ben henderson that came over and didn't get beat right away. Lawler was already cut by the ufc, jon jones legal troubles are only reason cormier has a title, the ufc didn't have a 145 or 135 division untill it brought over the WEC so that's a mute point. Condit again was defeated by Kampmann. Rockhold got his head kicked off by vitor. For starters, Davis hasn't won that title yet.
Second- he won 2 fights and now has his title shot.
Do off the top of my head, fighters who have come over and won 2 in a row...
Benson won 3 before he took the 155 title.
Cowboy Cerrone.
Jose Aldo.
Dominick Cruz.
Robbie Lawler.
Fabricio Werdum.
Overeem came over and retired Brock.
Cormier won his way to the LHW title.
Pettis eventually took gold at 155.
Rockhold just wrecked Weidman.
Jacare won, what, 5 in a row before dropping that bs decision?
Etc
Etc
Werdum wasn't cut. They renegotiated his contract before the JDS fight.. after the JDS fight they tried to make him take less money and a new contract.. he said no and they parted ways because of their greed.Werdum and Lawler were both with the UFC long before Strike force was ever around and cut because of losing streaks.
So to be clear- you're claiming they were minor league, had 1 fight in the UFC and became world class overnight...?Out of all those fighters you mentioned you got ben henderson that came over and didn't get beat right away. Sure the guys started elsewhere but they weren't as big time as they are untill they had a few ufc fights. Of course you are going to get better when you have to face tougher opposition and have more years to train. What you are saying is like comparing a guy that starts out at AA baseball and then makes the majors 5 years later and is an all star.

The WEC was the minor leagues and no most of them had several UFC fights before they became world class. They were all highly talented already just needed to take that next step. Most of them you memtioned have been in the UFC longer than they were ever in the UFC. DC and Overeem were great fighters but obviously not as good as the best the UFC has right now.So to be clear- you're claiming they were minor league, had 1 fight in the UFC and became world class overnight...?
