For me danners, around the farm bogs muck boots are my go to, their warranty is second to none. They replaced a set of boots that I messed up no questions asked.

If you are looking for work boots then it is nearly impossible to beat one of the PNW brands. Certain tasks like concrete, pig shit, and regular water submersion then would come up short. But for working in a shop, climbing trees, in the woods, working on your property, construction, or just a pair to wear to the office to last the rest of your life they cannot be beaten. They take thick leather, add more thick leather, reinforce it with leather, then top it off with leather. Resole them twice, then rebuild, then resole twice more, then rebuild. Literal decades of use for most people.

There are also some great, relative, value options like Drews. They are PNW style but built in Mexico (great bootmaking tradition there)

I love talking boots

Boots, like knives and a few other products, are also in the category of Made in America makes so much fucking sense. Some of the best boots, knives, hoodies, and jeans, are sourced and made in America. Zero reasons to ever buy some cheap Chinese junk (I do allow for a few exceptions. Japan makes great boots and jeans and knives, and few companies in western Europe make great boots) but you can easily buy true made-in-America boots and knives without sacrificing one iota of quality

Danners or bogs?
Danners. Brown hiking boots. Was gonna wear them for work. Ended up being able to wear whatever I wanted and didn't have to ruin them.

I'd never heard of them when I got them. I went to a store in paso robles and the owner there had a good chat and helped me pick some

Heaven on your feet. Weigh next to nothing and pretty waterproof up to the ankle line. The Gortex soles unfortunately won't last forever, but I get 6, maybe 7 years out of them if I don't care about grip.

Pick a line with heavier duty soles and they have a very reasonable resoling service.

I'll tear up any boot, guaranteed. I've tried every glove. Torn to shreds in 2 weeks, tops. I'm not leg crossing at the symphony with em. Wear and toss.

These are Nick builder pros I bought for my uncle, he's a general contractor. 8oz leather. Your average boot is 3-4 oz. You'd have to put some serious effort to flex these when they're new. And American made and sourced. IMG_7423.jpegIMG_7424.jpeg

I used to really like Doc's but they don't make half sizes and by the time my feet stopped growing I was a half size. On top of that my feet are two different sizes with 1 being almost a half size larger (that one is for speed) than the other one (that one of for agility), so they're a no-go for me now.

The company I worked for gave us annual vouchers for $75 for boots and we got a corporate discount through a website called steeltoes or some such. Found some New Balance ones on there with 5 star rating. I ordered them and they’re great. I usually go through hell breaking in new boots but these were comfortable right out of the box. I didn’t know they made anything but tennies.
