Nate Diaz has long been at odds with the UFC, and he’s not pleased with the way the announced matchup between him and Matt Brown was handled.

Last week the UFC formally announced a welterweight fight between Matt Brown and Nate Diaz (moving up from lightweight) for the big UFC 189 pay-per-view in July. Of course, this does involve a Diaz brother, so it’s virtually guaranteed to be anything but easy and straightforward. Shortly after last Wednesday’s announcement, Diaz said “nah I’m fighting [Anthony] Pettis” on Twitter. Matt Brown later posted (then deleted) an Instagram pic of what was supposedly his signed contract agreement.

On Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour on Monday, Diaz gave his side of the story regarding the Brown fight, continuing to emphasize that he never agreed to it.

“I was told the Brown fight was talked about but they were supposed to work out a deal and figure it all out, negotiate the fight the next Monday. Then all of a sudden (it’s announced),” Diaz said. “I never necessarily okayed the fight, the fight was never negotiated, and then all of a sudden I was getting …read more

Nate Diaz says he 'never negotiated' UFC 189 fight vs. Matt Brown - Bloody Elbow

"They just have the push power," Diaz said. "They say I'm fighting and I'm fighting now, so I don't know. I don't think so. It don't work like that. Maybe with all these other guys out here, but I think if you're going to fight somebody next Saturday, I'm not going to just say that you're going to fight somebody and assume you can show up. I'm probably going to call you and make sure you can show up, right? Talk about it.

"I haven't (talked to anybody), but if it was dealt with properly and the circumstances were better, then I'm all aboard. That'd be a great fight, especially with a fighter like that."

So the UFC basically set it all up, got Brown on board with a signed contract, and left Diaz as the last piece. Now they lean on him as the odd-man out. It really shows where the fighters stand in competition and negotiating abilities in the market place. Lawsuit addition for sure!

Typical manipulative, shady, bully type tactics. Watch...wait and see if Dana doesn't put him on blast publicly soon...guarantee he says Nate's afraid to take the fight.

i bet if Nate turns them down they will force him to sit out for a year as punishment. pretty low of them.

Nate should announce that "Dana is stepping down as president of the UFC."

Then when Dana says "no who said that" Nate can say "now you know how i feel"

Nate needs to check that white privilege and do what zuffa says. He got his ass kicked in his last fight, time to earn that money he always bitches so much about.

Whatever happened to anyone, anytime, anyplace?

Too much politics involved nowadays imo

Although I agree zuffa shouldn't announce fights before it's all booked, that's whack, just bored of reading about whatever the diaz brothers feel infringed about on a weekly basis.

Never heard this shit from fedor

Sweet golden post is golden sweet.

You know, considering Dana's sensitivity to anything off-Zuffa script, it should be possible to assassinate him with a scathing-enough remark. I'm calling it now: Conor McGregor by verbal death-stroke after failed contract negotiations in 2016.

Nate's a lightweight, and a relatively inactive lightweight at that, but with a full camp he's still a dangerous opponent for anyone at 155. At 170, not so much. It's actually a terrible move (on paper) for Nate to accept a fight with Matt Brown at welterweight at this moment in his career. I think some fans have lost sight of the fact that Nick and Nate Diaz are not the same fighter.

in my first comment, i asked priziesthorse if it was Nate and now see why for good reason............i don't know about his mental state or what he's up to, but this looks like a bullying job and they are trying to push him out.

maybe it's because the diaz brothers are 2 of the few that are willing to speak out against a lot of the shit that gets pulled. fedor was probably a little scared for his life to do the same. they didn't play around with the yakuza.

nate did not make weight the last time, so zuffa makes a fight at 170.

While I feel bad for Nate, I can't help but feel he is in this situation of his own volition. He got fucked on a contract, because he trusted the UFC to look after him, which wasn't his fault to an extent, but you could maybe say he was naive there. However, once all that was out and it was clear he had no legs to stand on, he should just have fought as much as possible at 155, instead of sit out for however long, and now complain about every match up. He could have finished his contract and left the UFC to fight for Bellator, or at least made the UFC beat their offer.

He can be an exciting fighter in the right match ups, and really Matt Brown is a decent fight for him, in terms of what he wants. I don't see Brown using movement to cut loads of angles, while working on his legs, he will walk Diaz down and stand and trade, which the Diaz brothers seem to want. I don't see Nate winning, but it could easily be a fight of the night contender if Diaz comes correct, and prolonging his contract with this bullshit is only hurting himself.

I feel bad for Nate ever getting hooked up with Mike Kogan as his manager. I haven't seen him in 13 years or more and still consider him one of the worst people I've ever known. All I'll say about the guy is that it wasn't uncommon for people to see his truck in the gym parking lot and go back home.

If you see their names, skip over it then.

If this exact thing had happened to ANY other fighter, the fans would have their back all the way.

But hey, it's Nate Diaz so it must be all his fault.

Nate ended up in a bad situation, because he was taken advantage of. Once he was in that situation he handled it in the worst way possible.
