While the John Lineker vs. John Dodson main event sounded great to hardcore UFC fans, and delivered in the cage, it wasn't as much a success to the casual viewer.

Saturday's UFC Fight night did 657,000 viewers on FS 1, the lowest for a Saturday night prime time show so far this year.

There were differences from most weeks, including the prelims being on FS 2, and the main card not starting until 11 p.m. ET, which both were going to hurt the numbers. The last few rounds of the main event peaked after 1 a.m. at 831,000 viewers, so even with the late hour, the long main event kept the viewership.

Still, while those changes matter, they don't come close to spelling the difference from the 1,109,000 viewers for the show and 1,326,000 for the main event the previous Saturday for the Cris Cyborg vs. Lina Landsberg-led event. If anything, the numbers only emphasize just how much television interest there was in Cyborg to pull those kind of numbers against football.

The only prime time show this year that did worse was a Wednesday night show on July 13, headlined by Lineker vs. Michael McDonald, which did 609,000 viewers and was the fourth UFC show in eight days.

Well people are morons, that shit had war written all over it from jump street and delivered. Casual asshole fans that Mcgruber and Cm PUnk brought in are the ones who do big numbers for those fights.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people changed that channel instead of having to listen to the stupid ass super loud screaming cunt of a whale beast that kept crying out with her sasquatch mating call.

Artical incorrectly calls Dodson v Lineker a war...when a man repeatedly turns and runs as fast as he can, as far away as he can, he is not engaged in a war. Just my opinion. Dodson put himself on my don't watch because of his efforts. Several fighters have succesfully used this strategy to earn themselves a position on my don't give a fuck to watch them fight list. Dodson, have a seat over there, please.

no offense to smaller fighters or people

I have almost zero interest in fights below 145

When WEC merged with UFC was the beginning the end of Golden Era UFC for me.

Used to be 155 and above only and most fights were 185+

Casuals drive me crazy. Kimbo vs Shamrock drew in millions, but an actual, meaningful fight and nobody cares.

Yeah I'm sure you posted this because it drives you crazy, not at all because it's part of your anti-UFC agenda.

Not really surprised. No name recognition on the card to get casuals to tune in. Plus it was up against one the best college football games played in recent memory.

Or maybe the casual or prospective fight night fan that tuned in last week was disappointed so didn't bother this week.

They didn't help it by having the prelims on Fox Sports 2 snd they main catd starting so late.

My problem is that they'll look to this as proof that smaller fighters don't sell, when they stacked the deck against it and use this as an excuse for more CM Punk type fights (Bellator too- they're in talks with Shawne Merriman.....).

Only fight I was excited for was buried on fightpass. Had a group of friends to watch the Nelson/Silva fight last week (they loved it) but there is no way I could get them interested in this card. Number is actually higher than I would have thought.

I asked some buddies of mine that are casuals if they were going to watch it, and they didn't even know it was on.
