Donald Cerrone says a fighters union will revolutionize the UFC.

Looking to build on the momentum of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election, Donald Cerrone is planning to start a ‘revolution’ in the UFC.

Cerrone, a staunch supporter of the newly-elected Republican president, says he wants to get the ball rolling with a fighters union.

The MMA fan favorite spoke with Ariel Helwani prior to his UFC 205 showdown with Kelvin Gastelum.

“We gotta do something,” Cerrone said of a potential fighters union. “I think a lot of fighters are involved, man. It’s gonna be a revolution.”

“Led by Cowboy,” Cerrone said of the revolution with a smile. “Trump and Cowboy making America great again.”

Cerrone doesn’t know the specifics of the planned union but says he expects it to be formed by 2017.

Love Cerrone but he's talking out of his ass here, he could rally some guys and build support but an actual Union? I don't see it.

Good for him.
Whatever structure takes shape, power ought to be given to the workers here.
The businessmen are hiding behind law enforcement while bending/breaking the law.

It would only take a third of the fighters to vote on it, and just over half to ratify. It's certainly possible, and i hope they get it done.

Veteran fighters, who make more money per show, wouldn't go for it. We would definitely see more fighter rotation on fight cards. Curious what would happen if a fighter doesn't make weight, losses, or failed drug test?

Cowboy, you dumbass. The fighters need to be employees for a Union to be legal.

The federal committee that decides that is appointed. Do you think the Republicans you love so much are going to appoint a pro employee, pro union committee?

No, dumbass. Those Ayn Rand groupies posing as Republicans are going to squeeze every cent out of the lower class and in the world of MMA, that's the fighters.

No fighter bashing, please. -:alien:

Not until they get a determination on their independent contractor status unfortunately. At this point, it would be best for them to try organizing via a card check, which you'll recall as the very thing the Fertittas blocked the culinary union from doing at Station Casinos and that shills like Kirik fell in line calling "undemocratic."

You're correct. I don't think any objective judge wouldn't rule in their favor. If you're required to be in a uniform, told where to be, when to be there, and how you need to look when you show up, you're an employee.

No offense to Cerrone but I hope the President of the potential fighter's Union is a bit more educated.

I'd like to apologize for calling Cerrone names. The knowledge that he most likely dated WEC Brittany and Bikini.com-era Michelle Waterson has opened a gaping vortex of jealousy in my heart.

I like him a lot as a fighter and I just need to get over it.

Whatever the issue is, I'm sure it's nothing that some new leather jackets and limited edition UFC N.Y.C. apparel couldn't fix.
