UFC president Dana White recently revealed that Cris Cyborg turned down two opportunities to fight for the inaugural UFC featherweight championship, but according to the Brazilian fighter, she had a pretty good reason for it.

After scoring a pair of impressive knockouts in catchweight bouts, Cyborg told the promotion she wouldn’t cut down to 140 pounds anymore, so the UFC decided to create a women’s featherweight belt for the current Invicta FC champion. However, according to White, Cyborg turned down fights against Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie.

Hey look, they offered her a fight on their terms and she turned it down because it was the smart thing to do as an athlete and an independent contractor, but as a pseudo-employee of the UFC she had her chance, and she blew it. A full training camp, 24 pound weight cut the week of the fight, which they (the UFC) were aware of, and she's saying she won't be ready to go again in 2 months for the belt? Cyborg just doesn't get it.

The title will still be available when she's ready.

It's not like they're going to create the division for anybody else.

If they don't make a 145 division then I'll leave the UFC. But they're going to have to give me 6 months notice via Morse code or I won't take the fight because I will die.

So if she can't make 145 in 8 weeks I think it's beyond fair to say that she shouldn't be fighting 90% of the girls she has.

We all know Cyborg doesnt need 5 months to recover from a weight cut. What is the real reason she wont fight Holly or Germaine? She already ducked Germaine for a 140 lb fight in order to fight Lina. I think she's legit scared of fighting anyone with real skills that can match her in size. She's having flashbacks to the Baars fight where she got clowned

Gawd knows who to believe here. All I know is that if any of the shit is true that Cyborg says she really should stop cutting weight. Jesus.

Dana talks bollocks a lot too. So. There is that.

3 weeks out from retirement without fighting cyborg in her entire career
It's pretty clear at this point they are in different weight classes. It's not incumbent on the smaller fighter to go up if they don't want to.

she doesnt have to but she will always be remembered as ducking cyborg and fighting in a shallow division. cyborg cant make rondas weight class without chopping off a leg but ronda cuts from much higher than most women.she could easily fight at 145 or higher if it was an option.there is only one superfight in wmma and it is never going to happen due to fuckery from both sides

It's on her now. Many fighters jump at a title shot, no matter what the circumstances. And having a division made for you, there is zero excuse to turn it down. Didn't she always fought at 145? And now that is a problem? 10 weeks time to get prepared for a title shot is more than enough considering how many fighters win fights with far less in advance notice.

My problem with this situation is that cyborg said she would fight Rhonda at 140 in march. She was then offered two fights (holm may not have agreed but the contract was there to sign) in the same time frame at 145 and suddenly she couldn't take them because of a horrible weight cut.

I want to see her fight Rhonda or shut the hell up about it. The amount of drama from her camp about weight is ridiculous. Quit saying you can make weight then going back on it.
