Wife wants to start using Kodi. Our smart tv is dumb (Sharp aquos stopped providing access to the internet on ALL their tvs! They dont even sell tvs in north america anymore either!). Can we just buy a firestick and make the tv smart again?

Yes.
Kodi can be used very easily on fire stick.

The NVIDIA shield has more ram/better processor etc so it definitely works better with Kodi.
It's a big difference in price though I imagine mate.

@Kelly here ya go...I just installed it and it works perfectly.
"AMA Pro Racing" Add-On for Kodi | Kodi Add-On Repository
select that and do the direct download. that will be a zip file.
then navigate in kodi to addons.
install from zip file
install the ama zip you downloaded earlier
then navigate to my addons.
video addons
select ama racing.
click update
wait for it to update for 20 secs
select open
HAVE FUN!!!!
