Whoa. *clears golf ball from throat*

Important message to get out.

I see people doing shit on their phones while driving all the time here. Scary. PUT THE PHONE DOWN.

Austin actually has a hands-free policy now. City-wide. You can be ticketed for talking on your phone, texting, etc. Hands free only.

I'm guilty as well of course. We were shown this at work this morning and it's one of the better approaches on the topic I've seen yet.

In BC it's a big fine for phone use as well.

At first I wasn't sure the direction of the video, then I saw her walk out and thought I did. Then it took an unexpected turn when she spoke.

Anyone in here should be sharing this with some people in their life.

between taking public transportation to work and just not being attached to FB, friends, etc as i got older....i rarely text and drive nowdays. actually, i never do. i even get my pandora set up before backing out of a spot, which sometimes pisses off people waiting to come in (i try to be fast tho...its literally liek 15 seconds lol)

but dude. i did try last year and i was swerving all over the place. back around 2007-2009ish, i used to drink and drive while texting on a flip phone. no fucken clue how i didnt hurt mysself or someone else. and i was not the only one

What's your channel again? I'll subscribe.
dont subscribe for the sake of helping me have subs or views. but i appreciate ur kindness

bridge4

its a channel for shit like westworld, game of thrones, or other things that are worth analyzing. im tempted to start just doing "list" videos related to tv shows or movies, bc those seem to attract the most views

if i ever got tonnnns of subscribers, i will occaisonally use my reach to share things that i find more important than fantasy/fiction. stuff like a list of "must see" videos such as the one from OP

it comes at the risk of losing subscribers, since its not what my channel is about. but as long as its done infrequently, i dont think itll be a problem. my reach isnt big enough yet tho. 3k subscribers. and probably only 10% of them at mst watch my videos. most my views are coming from searches or autoplaying for people after they've watched similar content by someone else

this is old lars, right>? btw, i found ur play by play hilarious last not. not necessarily in terms of the individual play by play messages, but just in the scheme of things. how they discussed having some serious play bby play, and then u proceeded to send those insane messages consistently. hilarious lol

oh i drift. i didnt find your "i tmmac while driving message" funny. ok, i kinda did, but i couldnt flair it bc i didnt like that i laughed

but this one about zamboni was very funny. well done!

anything that takes your eyes, ears, or mind off of the 2 tons of screaming-fire-death that you're piloting is bad.
Even talking on a hands-free is not a good idea

i was wondering this after i said something similar about flip phones

was it easier for us to type because our brains had muscle memory for which letters were where? thats pretty cool. if so, its a small example of how a drasitcally improved technology can actually regress in some areas (granted, we shouldnt have been tecting on flip phone either, even tho it was apparently easier)

i heard someone smart explaining road rage in a similar context. we think we are relaxed and what not when driving. but we arent. and thats a good thing. subconsciously, our minds know that we are in "2 tons of screaming-dire-death" machines

so he hypothesized that THAT is why people explode so rapidly into road rage. its because we are in "survival mode" so to say

driving is one of the easiest ways to enter a "flow state". Anything that pushes Challenge index beyond the flow state is going to be perceived as frustrating.

i think that agrees with the "survival mode" theory, right?

definition:
In positive psychology, flow, also known as the zone, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.

high on skill AND challenge levels...

^i like the way that chart uses relaxation as being high on skill. opposite of apathy. thats an interesting way of lookign at relaxion. this topic intrigues me. what are the higher level topics

psychology? >> sub level topic = ?

is it "positive pyschology"? or is that directly related to the "flow" state...

A year ago or so, a lady was texting or something on her phone and she swerved into my lane. I had to swerve suddenly and ended up going through a drainage ditch and into someone's yard. I barely missed hitting a large live oak tree (was probably still going about 30mph at that point).

Worst part - I had my toddler in the car.

Her and another driver stopped a little bit ahead and the other driver was berating her pretty ruthlessly when I got there (good on him). When I pulled up she saw my son in the car and burst into tears and apologized profusely. It was all good in the end as nobody got hurt, but I hope that was that definitive lesson for her. It was also a lesson for me, and a reminder that using a phone while driving is never a good idea and that shit can and does happen very quickly.

BTW - to me, "survival mode" implies an amygdala hijack...Fight/Flight response. A complete disconnect of cognition and a reversion to control by the 'monkey brain'.

ok, i probably fudged the dudes hypothesis. maybe he was saying that, when driving, u are in "flow state" and a slight nudge can throw u into sort of survival mode. he may not have even used the term ":survival mode"

but this line from ur message above rings true, to explain road rage: "Anything that pushes Challenge index beyond the flow state is going to be perceived as frustrating."
