he was saying because of poor design (2010 chevy malibu) he is going to have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to what he needs to.assuming that the work is needed? Maybe a little steep on the labor @$95/hr, considering he's just pulling the wheels off and spinning a couple bolts...and 3.5 hrs seems a little long for changing sway bar links...but always get a 2nd opinion if you don't know and trust the mechanic.
(I'd expect more like $300-$350)
I was going to say it depends on the vehicle. Hondas are easy to work on. GM and Ford are not. Dodge aren't too bad. It's like American vehicle engineers just figure out how to cram the shit in without considering maintenance.he was saying because of poor design (2010 chevy malibu) he is going to have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to what he needs to.
Makes me scratch my head that on the newer Tundra's its a 3hr job(If I remember correctly) just to swap out the starter.I was going to say it depends on the vehicle. Hondas are easy to work on. Eg: remove the rocker cover on a Civic. Undo a few bolts.
Remove the rocker cover on a Camaro. Drop the whole fucking engine :/
I've worked on cars where I have to remove a load of struts and mounts just to get to the oil pan.
Nice qualifier "price will go up if"
Not sure where you are but he's in Michigan. There's no such thing as "spinning a couple bolts" in the rust belt.assuming that the work is needed? Yeah, I'm in Ohio and anytime I have to remove a bolt I'm terrified it's just going to snap off. I typically douse the fuckers in PB Blaster the night before and that tends to help. Not sure where you are but he's in Michigan. There's no such thing as "spinning a couple bolts" in the rust belt.
and most techs will do something similar except that they don't have the ability to let it sit over night. People tend to forget that mechanics get paid by the job and not by the hour.Yeah, I'm in Ohio and anytime I have to remove a bolt I'm terrified it's just going to snap off. I laugh at all of the old trucks when I go up to Ohio. Literally every one is rusting all to shit. I'll be up that way in a few weeks again.Yeah, I'm in Ohio and anytime I have to remove a bolt I'm terrified it's just going to snap off. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they use hydrochloric acid to melt ice on the roads around here.I laugh at all of the old trucks when I go up to Ohio. Literally every one is rusting all to shit. I'll be up that way in a few weeks again.
They must. I was up there in Jan and it was like 10 degrees. Meanwhile, everyone back home was wearing shorts. At least this time it won't be as cold up there...hopefullyYeah, I'm pretty sure they use hydrochloric acid to melt ice on the roads around here.
You never know. Ohio weather is pretty drunk this time of year. You never know what the hell it's going to do.They must. I was up there in Jan and it was like 10 degrees. Meanwhile, everyone back home was wearing shorts. At least this time it won't be as cold up there...hopefully
I know you are probably joking but hydrochloric acid is used to remove rust and mineral deposits.products like CLR are usually a mixture of several acids and used to remove calcium lime and rustYeah, I'm pretty sure they use hydrochloric acid to melt ice on the roads around here.
Yeah, I was joking. Maybe they should use hydrochloric acid if it removes rust. Although, all the vehicles would disappear if it removes rust. Haha.I know you are probably joking but hydrochloric acid is used to remove rust and mineral deposits.products like CLR are usually a mixture of several acids and used to remove calcium lime and rust
My buddy owns 10 napa shops and says he pays his guys by the hourand most techs will do something similar except that they don't have the ability to let it sit over night. People tend to forget that mechanics get paid by the job and not by the hour.
I like Cleveland and Akron. I don't know about living there, but we have a good time when we go. We usually hang out around a small town called Medina though. If I lived in Ohio my response to anyone hating on Ohio would always be the same thing, Cedar Point.
Ohio's weather sucks... Fuck you, Cedar Point.
Cleveland is a horrible city... Fuck you, Cedar Point
and so on....
