UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is slated to defend his title against Anthony Johnson in a rematch at UFC 210. But even with this daunting task at hand, the thought of getting even with bitter rival Jon Jones still lingers in his mind.

“DC” almost had his shot at UFC 200 last July, only to have Jones pull out due to a failed drug test. After the incident, UFC president Dana White is no longer confident with having “Bones” headline a big event.

With that in consideration, Cormier says he is not willing to make this fight co-headline just any card. Not unless it is bannered by the company’s current top draw.

“I’m not going to fight Jones just on some card. It would have to…

I see no problem with this.
Smart man. He won't relegate himself to 2nd-most important fight unless he's getting a share of the massive PPV revenues C-Diddy brings in.

Conor is changing lives, 1 bum at a time.

So he's willing to be the curtain jerker?

Interesting
Robert, title holders get a share of the revenue of PPVs. They call this share "points".

The more PPVs sold, the more money from points a title holder gets. This is the case whether said title holder is fighting in the main event or the co-main event or an even lower tier than that.

So Cormier would make a shit ton of money by being a "curtain jerker" to the guy who has 3 of the top 4 highest-selling PPVs of all time.

It's really not that interesting, it's just common sense.

"So I started to ask everyone when I heard about it because, you know, I got it from a pretty reliable source. I messaged Brock. I said, 'Hey Brock, is it Christmas time in the Cormier household? Because Brock Lesnar equals pay-per-view buys.' But he didn't respond. Then finally after the commercial ran, I got a response from Brock that said, 'Merry Christmas DC.' And I was like 'You got to be kidding me!' I had to take a moment, sit in the corner a little bit and try to compose myself. It's tremendous, man. It's a big event; you got Brock Lesnar who you can argue is the biggest star in UFC history. And I believe you have the most important fight that UFC can put on right now. I love Nate, love Conor, it's a huge fight, but what is it for? It isn't for a belt. It's not going to lead to a title shot, it's a fight that people just want to see because it's an attraction. When it comes to Jon and I, you have the most important fight UFC can put on at the most important event."

It would have been interesting to see how many buys UFC 200 would have done if Jones-Cormier 2 had stayed on the card.

But lol @ underestimating Conor-Nate 2, which would go on to be the highest-selling PPV of all time.

I see your point about Conor Nate 2 but that's easy in hindsight. Not too many people thought the possibility of Conor going 1-1 with Diaz would guarantee a title fight.

Idk. UFC 196 did 1.3 million on late-notice, and rematches always sell well.

People who thought Conor would not get whatever fight he wanted after beating Diaz are a little delusional.

I'll hear your dilusional and counter with hopefully optimistic that things would be "normal". Heart would've loved to see at least one title defense before LW but head probably knew better.

I think that if the guys doing PPV projections had any indication that Aldo-McGregor 2 would have done more buys than Alvarez-McGregor, they would have been able to convince Conor to rematch Jose.

But I imagine that the chance to see history in the form of the first simultaneous 2-division champion ever was projecting higher, so that's the fight we got.

Probably right. I called that Eddie vs Conor a money fight and got some flack here but whatever. I'm certain that was the main motivator see one to the champ vs champ thing. Both guys should've defended once at least and then fought. That would at least have a hint of something resembling a super fight or have more value imo.

He needs to be more worried about Rumble putting his head in the 5th row......
His chin held up last time. But he's getting older...... and coming off an AKA injury special.
