Three months removed from a squandered title opportunity at UFC 209 due to a difficult weight cut, Khabib Nurmagomedov is still angling for another interim lightweight fight against Tony Ferguson.

"Regarding health - I have nearly completed rehabilitation,” said Khabib (h/t ToFight.ru). “I will start to train somewhere in the middle of June. The return is planned for October because I need four months of full training. As for the match, I think, that 90 percent I…

If Dana is correct about Conor wanting to fight again after the Mayweather bout this year, Khabib ain't getting that interim shot unless Conor fights Nate, which I guess is plausible. Khabib needs to shoot for earlier though.

Once Conor cashes that boxing check, he'll shit on MMA and never come back.

I disagree, though reluctantly. Your idea is entirely plausible, I just don't think it is what will happen. For all of the "he's only after money" talk, which has some validity, Conor does seem to genuinely enjoy competing. I don't think he will necessarily be around until he's 35, but I don't think he stops after Floyd.

I think it depends if he wins. If he wins there's really no need to come back, you leave on the top of the top. If he loses he has no choice but to come back so he doesn't get clowned on for the rest of his life like Rhonda.

When you miss weight and pull out of a title fight you should go to the back of the line, not the front.
