The UFC for the last few years has been tricking fighters into fights by announcing them before contacting fighters. See many of Nate Diaz's tweets for about 1,000 examples lol....
This. I remember years ago Bibiano Fernandes was in talks with the UFC and they announced he'd be fighting Ronald Delorme at UFC 149.

Then he came out and said he didn't even sign a contract with UFC and ended up signing with One. Shit made me laugh and shake my head at the same time

Dj doesn't want this fight, there is no reason for tj to have to fight any other bantamweight, no fights are based on merit anymore and there is no line that tj is cutting.

Dj is scared

So he should continue fighting guys that arent in his league. Who the fuck is gonna pay to watch DJ vs Borg lol. DJ vs TJ is actually an intriguing fight and DJ will earn more money.
This. He's been fighting no names for the longest time and now he has a chance. Guys that take a chance, they get the payday.

All of this makes me wanna stop watching TUF a bit. They really fuck themselves having coaches that arent actually gonna fight.

You're correct in your feeling that there's not much of a line, but Borg has earned his shot at DJ (It may be a fools journey, but a journey he's earned the right to take).

The UFC has made a mockery in it's rankings, Borg should get the shot but he won't. He'll get bumped in favor of TJ (who hasn't won shit at 125 lbs) because they need a title fight at 213. Now if TJ loses, then DJ will probably get the big money BW super fight (which he earned by beating the #1 ranked BW) and Borg will get pushed back down the ranking.

If DJ loses, I guarantee that they'll run back the fight against TJ..... Unless he gets obliterated, in which case they'll probably make a TJ/Cody "super fight"....... In any rate Borg gets pushed back down the rankings.

That line is thin.... But there is a line, and skipping a fighter, and taking away his shot.... That's fucked up

What has Borg done to really earn a title shot?

He beat Formiga which is really solid but his win over Smolka is a bit tainted since he missed weight (129). Before that he missed so badly the fight was cancelled and he went to the hospital before he could step on the scales. The fight before that he lost.

Now I do think he's a top prospect in the division but with that as his recent history he's not really deserving in my eyes.

Plus, he's 23. Let him make weight two times in a row before he gets a crack.

DJ would need a full camp and then some to prep for a TJ fight. July 7 is not enough time to put together a camp and gameplan for TJ. He's a good fighter. Offering this fight to DJ 6 and a half weeks out (and through the media no less) is actually disrespectful to both fighters. I also don't believe TJ can make 125 so that puts double pressure on MM to accept a fight where his opponent is likely to be overweight on the night of the fight after pulling together a hasty camp. Almost feels like the UFC is actively trying to prevent DJ from breaking the record.

DJ wants that record and Borg is the road to it. Big name, million dollar fights can wait a few months. The smart thing would be to do an interim BW title rematch between Dillashaw and Cruz or maybe a rubber match with Assunçao. If DJ is going to take the TJ fight, he better get enough money to retire on if he wants it.

The fight will be in August. 213 already has Nunes vs Shevchenko and the interim MW fight. 213 is actually a pretty damn good card at this point.

The DJ-TJ fight would be in August in Seattle.

Gotcha. I thought they're saying UFC 213 on July 7. Still feel MM should get that record first with an earned contender. Betting TJ would never defend that belt if he won it and just use it to get more money in a Garbrandt fight.
Disagree. TJ would want the fight with Garbrandt, but I think he would defend the flyweight belt eventually if he won it, unless they forced him to drop it.

I certainly hope DJ waits a fight before doing it, but I will be happy either way as long as he doesn't sign reluctantly. If he signs to fight TJ, it means he got that payday he deserves.

I don't think the average fan could name 3 people DJ had defended his belt against. If he turns down fighting a big name fighter at the peak of his fame. Then DJ needs to quite down about a huge payday.

Which is why I agree with DJ about his business trepidation on this fight. He wants the big fight, he has no issues fighting TJ, Cody, Dom, whomever, BUT... If he loses (and every fighter knows that obviously there's that risk), the UFC will sell a TJ/Cody grudge match super fight for big money (The money DJ wanted)..... DJ feels he's already entitled to that being the dominant champ who cleared his division (save the Borg matchup which he'd probably win).

Can't fault DJ in his thinking/feeling here, let TJ/Cody fight and fight the winner in the super fight. Prior to that, beat the last possible contender to legitimately clean out his division, set the record (to further boost his legend), THEN make that money and go for that GOAT status. In the time where many praise Conor for his business acumen in building his brand, DJ is striving for the same thing and has yet to get it..... Let him get that shit, he's earned the right.

I just hate the notion that DJ is scared for wanting TJ to have 1 fight at 125.
According to MMAth,
DJ had a pretty good scrap vs Dom Cruz at BW.
TJ lost to CRUZ in a pretty close scrap at BW. There won't be much TJ can bring that DJ haven't seen already.
TJ will be a dehydrated 125er where he won't have the advantage of speed like he used to.
125er Dodson finished TJ (shows the speed advantage of lighter fighters) and DJ beat Dodson with ease, the 2nd one was domination.

U guys are crazy that says DJ is scared or ducking

I would imagine odds to be pretty even in a TJ vs DJ match.
Whereas against mighty mouse, Borg would be something like the +700 underdog (and I would still confidently bet on DJ).
DJ obviously dicktucking to get an easier fight to break Anderson's record (can't really blame him for wanting his name to stand out in the history books). He even said he wouldn't fight Cody right away as well, he clearly wants an easy fight to break the record first. I don't often agree with Joemacka @Joemacka, but he's spot on here.
first thing i thought, he wants an easier fight to cinch that record, then he'll fight whoever

How 'big name' is Dillashaw though? Sure, he's a bigger name than Ray Borg, but in general I wouldn't say he's a big name. I would even go as far as to say most fans wouldn't even know when he last fought and who he beat.

Former champ that has headlined Fox and PPV cards. TJ vs Cody is considered maybe the biggest fight available to the UFC at this time. I don't think Cody's name is the one driving that bus. If people don't know TJ than they are very unlikely to know any fighter under 170 not named Conor or Diaz. Hell I live for the sport and would have thought Ray Borg was an ex Boston Bruins hockey player till 2 days ago.

TJ became a household name beating the previously indestructible seeming Barao who was on a 10+ year unbeaten streak, and not only did TJ win, he beat him again in a rematch even more decisively. Quite a few people thought he should have gotten the nod over Cruz(myself being one of them)

Beat Barao 3 years ago today. Just noticed the alert on my Facebook page. Couple cool pics I took from the fight.

This is true. Trying to pressure them publicly into taking the fight. Unprofessional.
