I have my first BJJ class in about two hours. Not my first ever but it's been a long time and I've never trained in a gi. My 2 kids are just coming up on 1 year of training and watching them get better has inspired me to back in it. That and I have a new schedule that doesn't require me to leave town anymore which makes things like this much better to get involved in. I'm curious to see how much I remember and how many techniques I learned in no-gi will apply now. If things go as I hope I'll be looking to start to compete in tourneys, it's pretty cool now that 3 out of the 4 is us in my family will be training and all be a part of the same club culture.

Very excited! Any advice is always appreciated!

Go in as a clean slate, roll light to get back in the groove of flowing, BREATHE!!!!!, remember it's not about wins and losses here, it's about improvements. I know it's cliche, but the whole "check your ego" thing really does help, don't have the "I won't let this guy tap me" mindset ruin your training (whether you realize it or not, you'll get in the don't move/use all strength/burn yourself out super fast/potentially get injured way of training).

Just have fun, focus on breathing and flowing, remain calm (no one likes the mat spazz), and remember to tap to pressure not pain.

Good advice all around thanks. I did catch myself not breathing a few times, forgot how tiring it is.
We ended class rolling from guard and I had one spaz moment lol, these things happen!

Tons of fun though. I'm already looking forward to getting enough experience so I can help coach my kids in the near future.

Wow! I just went back the gym yesterday too! It's been a year and a half for me (bad times...)
I went slow and everyone at the club was very cool with me. I knew they would be, but it's weird getting back into it and seeing new faces.
Glad to hear you're back at it too!

All the best, my friend! :)

That's awesome! I feel a little beat up but that's to be expected. Only annoying thing is the scabbed up knuckles. Lots of fun :)
