If that is indeed the case. Yo, somebody please put a spoiler on this, I'm stupid.

To me it smells fucking weird, just like Masato Toys @Masato Toys and @thatothercunt said. I don't really follow the gun regulations thing at all, but it's being used to weaken Europe.
I believe the count is up to 23 in his hotel room and another 19 at his house.

I’d like to apologize now if it sounds like I’m defending the guy. Not at all. We still have to come to terms with what he did and somehow reconcile that with losing a family member and while we have no sympathy for a man that does something like this, it’s easier said than done.

We feel the loss of not just him but everyone he killed and hurt more so because it was the actions of one of our own.

We have family scared and paranoid about potential retribution. Some are stricken with sadness at the loss of life a member of their family has caused. Others are confused and “dumbfounded” (as my FIL expressed on tv).

Family members on the west coast are having heart issues from the stress (legitimately).

Grandma (the shooters mom) is in her 90’s and is trying to cope with the fact that her son could do something like this.

The whole family has to live with the fact that the family name has now sunk to “most famous mass murderer in our history”

Sorry to unload but it’s all very heavy shit to deal with in the wake of the worst public massacres in our history.

Too many guns for a guy that appears totally together imlo.
This is where we start to lose it...he had a few handguns in the past. I’ve brought a few of his handguns to a local range here before he moved back to Mesquite from Florida two or so years ago. He never seemed the type to hyper focus on anything let alone develop a healthy hobby with guns. It just wasn’t his thing.

So somewhere in the past year something switched. Either that or he’s been hiding it from the whole family forever, which is totally not beyond the realm of possibilities I guess.

We’re all just as curious as you all since my original description of him was shared by everyone in the family until this happened. I really hope they can find something that will make sense of this.

As a professional gambler, don't you have to be? At least on that. It's not the normal next door neighbor job, it has a lifestyle attached to it. You gotta be quite focussed, and you gotta have a special mindset for it I guess.

Not saying it leads to this, but it's certainly special in a way.

That completely makes sense man. You've lost the person you knew. And simultaneously have to question a lot. That's hard, real hard. Just hunker down and know that your family couldn't have changed anything. You don't carry responsibility.

We feel the loss of not just him but everyone he killed and hurt more so because it was the actions of one of our own.
And I still get this.
I know personally its easier said than done. I have a family member that is a child murderer. I've known him since he was a boy and reconciling what he became, what he did, with what I had hoped would be an adult family relationship is hard. I didn't lose that family member to death, but he will be out of prison a couple more decades and I expect that will reopen a lot of these same thoughts. Worse for his dad, he is a Jr. and the same name thing hangs on him,

The whole family has to live with the fact that the family name has now sunk to “most famous mass murderer in our history”
:(
I'm so sorry man.

If you knew him you would think he was just born with that ability. He didn’t have to try too hard to be successful at gambling. It was easy for him. But I can see your point too. So other than gambling he showed no interest in much else other than lounging and traveling the world. As my wife puts it, he didn’t have any fucks to give about anything. Just didn’t seem to care when it come to big headline topics etc.

This would be easy if we had a FB page full of anti trump hate or vice versa but alas there just isn’t much to go on right now.

I believe you man but you also had no clue he had a abundance firearms and was proficient in using them. Not trying to argue or pile on but there is more than meets the eye going on here.
To be fair, there isn't anything about what happened that strikes me as "proficiency".

It's both incredibly cheap and easy. 40 bucks or so.

Edit- looks like atf started knocking out drop in auto sears.

So now it's the whole group needed and maybe an 80% part.
150 bucks and an hour instead of 40 bucks and one minute.
and the ability to machine billet/forged aluminum. You're really over simplifying the process.

My guess is he bought them this way. That contradicts the storyline that the guns he had were all legal in NV but as many people know, if someone drops 100k in front of someone I’m sure they would happily convert any gun if they knew how. Steve was that guy. He was the type to drop money to get what he wanted. In the past it was for cars or services at the casinos etc but him using his money to get what he wanted wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Yes with my comment on the 80% part, but its apparently a moot one...

Full auto kits still around. They just went after drop in auto sear as owning them alone becomes the same has having a possession of an SBR upper with your nonSBR lower. The mere possession becomes illegal due to ease of conversion...it's assumed you convert it anytime you go out.

To add to this, he wasn’t particularly handy. He wouldn’t even pump his own gas! He would trade in his car when it needed an oil change. He would hire someone to hang artwork because it was too much work to do it himself.

An AR lower doesn't have a large enough pocket to install an auto sear. The RCMP actually released a bulletin about this a few months ago. Few people would have the equipment or expertise to do it properly:

Obviously, if you're rich, all bets are off and truthfully it makes the gun control argument irrelevant altogether.

I apologize to ask you to rehash. I've read through the thread, but must of missed it. You were related to the shooter?

He was my wife’s uncle who we would see every year or two in Vegas or at family gatherings. He lived close to us for a couple of years where we saw him a bit more frequently during that time. I’ve known the guy at that level for 10-12 years now.

Tracking. Again, I'm not in the market these days but 3 years ago all of this was available with ease on ar15.com and could be purchased and pieced together in a way to be done in minutes or hours. Modified lowers, old colt auto lowers, drop in sears, lightning links you just pop out of aluminium templates, etc.

I'd be shocked if its that much harder to come by because my google found the kit instead of the lowers.

EDIT- quick google

can still by low shelf lowers

I’m trying to not take a stand about the gun rights issue but the money merely made it so he didn’t have to modify the guns himself. From the sounds of it, anyone willing to modify their guns can maybe make the same mods rather easily?

Stephen Paddock: Isis gives Las Vegas gunman jihadi name in new claim amid widespread scepticism over terror links

Isis
has doubled down on its claim of responsibility for the Las Vegas shooting, bestowing a jihadi name on the gunman amid widespread scepticism.

Investigators say they have not yet found any evidence of a link between the terrorist group and Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old retired accountant known for gambling.

In a new official claim of responsibility, Isis claimed Paddock was responding to its leader’s call for intensified attacks against Western countries bombing its territories in Syria and Iraq.

“Responding to the call of [Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi] to target the states of the Crusader alliance, and after careful observation of gatherings of the Crusaders in the US city of Las Vegas, one of the soldiers of the caliphate (Abu Abd al-Bar al-Amriki, may Allah accept him) lay hidden armed with machine guns and various ammunition in a hotel overlooking a concert,” it said.

“He opened fire on their gathering, leaving 600 killed and injured, until his ammunition was finished and he departed as a martyr.”

Abu Abd al-Bar al-Amriki is an Arabic “kunya”, which Isis bestows on terrorists after particularly deadly or high-profile attacks as a mark of honour.

Isis gives Stephen Paddock jihadi name reserved for their most prominent 'soldiers'

According to my FIL the feds are scratching their heads since nothing is linking this to any motive whatsoever. It seems he was just a dude (how we knew him) until this happened and I think Marilou may be able to provide some insight into his mental state in the weeks leading up to this event. The family still hasn’t spoken with her yet but she is in contact with the authorities so hopefully they can make some sense of this because as of right now, we have nothing but assumptions and guesses.
Thanks for keeping us updated bud
I really don't think we'll ever know what the hell happened
