Who was the first fighter you fell in love with, either for their style, their persona or their win-loss ratio?

I think for me it was Jerry Bohlander and Guy Mezger. Both of these guys were super scrappy and technical in an era when most fighters weren't. I watched a lot of Guy in Pancrase and was really happy when he won King of Pancrase after going on a serious win streak. Bohlander had me from the Ferozzo fight and that crucifix submission he pulled off in UFC 12.

In all honesty, I never really took to any one fighter, per se, until I joined here and it got personal, lol.

I just liked to see good fights at that point and would pick and choose as they went along

Patrick Smith. Then Big Daddy.

But Pat Smith went to UFC1 as a Tae Kwon Do fighter (a TKD school paid him to say that), and I was a 17 yo TMA nut at the time.

UFC1 he got heel-hooked by Ken Shamrock, then hopped around on 1 leg picking a fight.
Then he learned some grappling for UFC2, tapped a couple dudes and knocked out Scott Morris, before getting Royce'ed in the final.

Big Daddy Elbows. 'nuff said.

Pat won me over right here.

I was 15 and was obsessed with JCVD and Bruce Lee movies. This opening kick was something right out of a movie or video game and I became a fan.

Tank and Frye would complete my top 3 in no particular order.

Royce. I was too young and stupid to realize the event was set up for him to win.

I still like Royce though, the marketing worked well.

Tito on TUF, I'd not seen any of his fights live at that point. I think they were airing repeats in the UK and I really liked his training ethic.

He can be a bellend but I'll always have a soft spot for him, only got to see him fight once and he lost.

Hard not to go with Royce. I was amazed at what I was seeing and when I started watching UFC he had already won a few tournaments so I had more footage of him to study than anyone else.

With that said the first exposure to the UFC was a UFC 3 vhs. It took seconds into the first fight to realize I would never miss watching this ever again. The man to credit for that would be The Giant Killer Keith Hackney.

Started watching MMA right around the time he won the belt. That 2nd fight with Sylvia killed me inside.

I went to the same high school as Jerry Bohlander. My brother went to school with him I was about five years behind them. Pete Williams used to wrestle with my brother in high school. Both Jerry and Pete were fun to watch. Livermore high represent!

I talked to Jerry about that, he said "Wow! I haven't seen from or heard from him in a long time, how's he doing?"
I handed the convo off to him, but he didn't feel comfortable responding at that time.
But Jerry did want to re-connect, as him, bro & Pete were the 3 district wrestlers picked to represent.

Around the time Jerry pulled that crucifix is when I started at AMC Kirkland, and showed the same interest in subs as him.
"Subs are fun".
And they are.
