Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is heading into enemy territory to face a hungry up-and-coming fighter.

Officials announced Tuesday that the former UFC light heavyweight champion will fight Australia’s own Tyson Pedro at UFC Adelaide on Dec. 2 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The bout was first reported by ESPN.

This will be Rua’s first fight since seeing a three-fight win streak snapped at this past July. At UFC Hamburg, “Shogun” was knocked out in 89 seconds by Anthony Smith. The loss dropped Rua’s UFC record to an even 9-9 and his overall record to 25-11. Rua, 36, last fought in Australia on Dec. 7, 2013 when he recorded a 63-second KO of James Te-Huna at a show in Brisbane.

I feel like Shogun should take more time off. That was a nasty KO by Smith.

Shogun Rua is a promising young talent. I hope they don't push him too fast.

Shogun hasn't looked good for ages -- he's like Gomi ...they kept throwing him out there and he kept getting brutalized.

Shogun already cemented his place in MMA History -- his knees are shot - his movements are very predictable these days ...wish he'd hang them up and go back to teaching at his and his brothers Gym.

3-1 in his last 4 isn't exactly looking like he's ready for the dump. My hope is he'll get a win here and go out on top.

Wonder how much the UFC is paying Shogun these days? I remember the tuna fight when he won. He looked past it then and that was 5 years ago.

he was on a run and did some real damage to some upper level LHWs
but he is not juicing at all and has such a good life and legacy he should not keep fighting these hungry lions

Te Huna ate the sniper shot counter and was lucky to Rua pulled/missed the ground shot...brutal KO

Not gonna happen buddy. I love Shogun... But as everyone else said... It's retirement time.
