I listened to the 1965 All Star game last night while doing some work around the house.

The NL squad was stacked.

Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell.

Hell, Roberto Clemente and Frank Robinson came off the bench and didn't get in until the 6th or 7th inning.

Joe Torre hit a HR.

Bob Gibson struck out 2 guys in the 9th with the tying run on 2nd to finish off the game.

One thing that really stood out was the pitcher's stats. Guys had records like 14-6 with 12 complete games at the break. The way pitchers are utilized has changed so much through the years.

Were you reminiscing about your early 20s?

Out of those guys, the only ones I remember watching in person are Pete Rose and Willie Stargell.

I remember seeing Frank Robinson, but that was as a manager.

The NL starting outfield (Stargell, Mays, Aaron) accounted for 1,890 career HRs. That has to be a record.

Stargell 475
Mays 660
Aaron 755

Albert Pujols (1333) needs 24 extra base hits to pass Babe Ruth (1356) on the all time list, leaving him behind only Stan Musial (1377), Barry Bonds (1440) and Hank Aaron (1477)

Pujols is currently tied for 4th with Cap Anson on the all time RBI list with 2075. He trails cheater Alex Rodriguez by 11, and cheater Barry Bonds by 139. He is 222 behind the all time leader Hank Aaron.

I bet you were a huge Jackie Robinson fan as a child
He quit playing in '56 and died in '72
I wasn't around yet.

Props to Jackie though. Broke the color barrier and did it in style by being named Rookie of the Year. In his 3rd season he was named the league MVP.

Is Pujols still playing?! I think the ball he hit in 06/07 against the GOAT organization, the Astros, still hasn’t landed lmao. Dude was amazing.

Buster Posey has opted out of the 2020 season. He and his wife had recently adopted two girls who were born prematurely.

He joins the following players who have decided against playing this year for various reasons:
  • Mike Leake - P - Diamondbacks
  • Ryan Zimmerman - 1B - Nationals
  • Joe Ross - P - Nationals
  • Welington Castillo - C - Nationals
  • Ian Desmond - OF - Rockies
  • Tyson Ross - FA
  • David Price - P - Dodgers
  • Felix Hernandez - P - Braves
  • Michael Kopech - P - White Sox
  • Nick Markakis - OF - Braves
  • Hector - P - Pirates
58 players were positive during intake testing.
13 players have tested positive since workouts began.

Players and on-field personnel are being tested every other day and staffers at least twice a week.

Season is set to open Thursday, July 23.

I spent my lunch break looking over the schedule. I can't find a single game that the Reds should lose year.
