Taxes are going up significantly next year for all Monroe County residents.

The Monroe County Commissioners approved next year’s budget at a special meeting this morning. Residents can expect an over 37 percent tax increase.

You absolutely cannot despise your government enough.

This should lead to revolt.

This is the county right next door to mine.

Is it a 37% tax rate increase?
Or is it a 37% out-of-pocket increase based on property value assessments which have gone up significantly since 2020?

Reading some of the articles, seems like they have had poor planning for years and with relief money being cut off post-Covid, they finally realized they were running out of money.

Sounds like 1.5 mils

So the ratio is an increase of $150 for every $100k of home value.

I'm thinking they are getting the 37% number not based on the rate but on the new burden. So assuming home assessments have gone up like they have all over the country, coupled with a 0.15% increase in tax rate - it's gonna leave a mark for sure.

According to this article, last year was the first time they raised taxes in 12 years.
Poor planning and budgeting by the county.

Same thing happening here but it's our state, our Liberal governor kept bragging how much surplus the state had and has been spending it hand over fist, now there is a shortage and they blame a bad economy. No you idiots it was covid money that you thought would always be there.

Which is why I think we need more people from a business background moving into politics. The activists arent cutting the mustard. That is tricky though because the wrong business person can be just as bad.

Politicians don't care about money because they've never had to WORK for money.
Running a government like a business is the correct way to do it - but you are right...plenty of corrupt fucks in the business world too.

What do you do when a child keeps sticking their hand in the cookie jar?

You smack their hand.

And then if they continue still?

You hang them from the neck until dead.

That seems like a lot for a courthouse.. And I'm going to guess it won't come back down after they build it and pay for it.
I grew up in central Oregon. No sales tax there, so property taxes are sky high.

When I was in elementary school, they proposed a tax increase saying if it wasn't passed, an entire list of school programs would be cut - bus routes, athletics, art programs, etc. The tax increased passed with flying colors and in response, they politicians voted themselves a pay raise & other frivolous things. No school programs were expanded.

The next election, they played the same tune - pass this tax increase or school programs will be cut. The public was wise to it & told them to go fuck themselves - it didn't pass.

The next year, sports programs in schools were cut like 30%, something like 20% of bus routes were consolidated, plus a whole bunch of other shit.

Point being - OF COURSE it won't come back down after they pay for their shiny new courthouse.

You do have to have a functioning courthouse, I dont think that can be dismissed. We all love law and order and without the facilities to play that process out, you might as well be in a third world country.

But like Wiggy said, what about everything else? If you are going to rebuild the courthouse, what about the schools, parks, and other important structures of a high functioning society.

They mention hiring more people, which is probably good. But raises, nah, you can go fuck yourselves. Politicians should be paid on something akin to commission. Some metric that determines success. If they meet that metric, then they get a bonus on top of their shitty base pay. Their base pay should be no higher than anyone else, instead they strive to hit metrics so they can earn more through the agreed upon bonus structure. If they dont earn a bonus, it means they didnt hit their metrics, and like a poorly performing sales person, they should be fired automatically, ineligible for office in the future.

But I suppose like a business they would fudge those metrics and make the numbers work so they can keep scamming

I think the worst part about this increase was a half mil to pay debt service costs. That is the giveaway that they spent poorly and either didnt have a play for repayment or just ignored it and kept spending anyway.

The rest of the shit mentioned in the articles is pretty standard operating cost type stuff. The debt service stuff would piss me off the most and would be the area I am most concerned doesnt repeat itself.

Side note, I have a friend that lives out in PA and it sounds fuckin boring as shit out there. Fishing sucks, their hunting I guess is supposed to be ok. Its like the Iowa of the east coast. Seems like just about any other state in the union going west would beat out PA top to bottom.

All I'll tell that asshole that is watching is CASH RULES EVERYTHING. 1000012004.jpg1000012005.jpg
I appreciate the new pipes but guess how these assholes decide to milk it? 10 years ago some cunt decided to dig up a duck pond and only fill one side. They're scooping up this trench one at a time to fill an enormous fuckin pond hole that will never fill with this tiny road. Just to buy dirt to refill my road. Bang it the fuck out and let me back in my backyard! I've already ran over 2 of my neighbor's plants and it's getting to tire poking time. I'm gonna need tractor grade tire pokers at this point!
