8 foot Lego Men found on beaches around the world

I stumbled across this story today, weird that I had never heard it before. Apparently, since 2007 8-foot tall Lego Men have been washing up on beaches around the world. They think it's some anonymous street artist, though the name is probably a fake. Who would put all the time and money in to these projects and just dump them in the ocean hoping they end up being found. Talk about an ultimate troll job.
