UFC welterweight Adlan Amagov has officially announced his retirement from professional sports, including mixed martial arts competition.
For months, the reasons for Adlan Amagov's extended absence from the sport were rumored, yet the Chechen welterweight has decided to officially announce his retirement from MMA competition rather than silently step aside.
Amagov informed Prosport-online.ru(h/t VK) that he has retired from all forms of professional competition to focus on a new job outside of sports, as well as his growing family. He reiterated the same points during the ACB 16 broadcast, where he was a guest at the show.
Amagov, a fan favourite in the welterweight division, was renowned for his kicking game and flexibility, which helped him compile an impressive record full of flashy knockouts. The Chechen native was one of the UFC's top Russian fighters in the time and had compiled a 2-0 record under the banner before embarking on an extended spell on the sidelines.
Amagov, who had only lost to current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler since his professional debut, was scheduled to face Jason High at the start of 2014 but pulled out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury. While he constantly shrugged off the suggestion that he would part ways with the sport, BloodyElbow.com later revealed that Amagov had already made the decision to step aside from professional competition.
