I'm pretty sure he had one fight left on his 11 fight contract, but UFC just released him since they aren't will to pay him whatever they were paying him in the 11 fight deal (brilliant move by Anderson working that deal out, by the way). He's 1-7 in recent fights so it makes sense. Rizin or One might scoop him up to get some more eyes on their product, but Bellator passed.

This was agreed upon by Silva’s team and the UFC in advance. Dana wanted him to retire after Cannonier, but gave him the opportunity to say he was going to retire from the “UFC” (not mma) after one more fight against Hall. This is just the plan playing out. He will definitely fight again but just not for the UFC or Bellator

Father time is such a sad thing to see. Seems like it was just yesterday we were witnessing greatness like this...

You don't get paid anything if you're released.

UFC attempted to re-sign him to a 4 fight contract, and he demanded an 11 fight contract. If he's cut on fight 10 of that contract, he received 6 more paydays than he would have at the pre-negotiated price. Math may not be your strong suit.

If he retires, he is still bound by the UFC contract, and cannot even take offers from other organizations. He needs to be released from his contract in order to fight elsewhere, or deemed as a free agent. If indeed that meeting took place and that was discussed, it would seem to me that the specific verbiage was never placed into the contract, and trusting that anything discussed with the UFC is above board, if not in writing, seems like a bad business decision.

I forgot the details, but the UFC thought he was washed up and done, but wanted to keep him under contract for life so he couldn't fight anywhere else. I think they expected another fight or two out of him, so they put a contract under his nose that was like 4 fights or something like that, knowing (in their mind) that he wouldn't fight that out. He called and raised their offer to 11 fights or something like that. They agreed with big shit eating grins, thinking they came out the winner and Anderson laughs all the way into either retirement or the bank, or both. He should get at least one or two high paying fights in other organizations I'm guessing. Might even get that Roy Jones Jr. fight the UFC wouldn't let him get.

I just looked it up. It was a 10 fight deal, not 11 fight deal. He fought 9 of the 10 before today's cut. The deal was signed after he beat Bonnar, and right before Weidman #1. LOL, the record looks like this:

Perfect timing to work out a deal from a position of strength. Deal was finalized/signed December 2012.

He's on an 11 fight contract and being paid for 10. Math may not be your strong suit.

They only wanted him to sign a 4 fight contract, thinking that would lock him in for life.

I retracted my statement on 11 fights, it was a 10 fight deal. In a nutshell, he was paid top dollar for 9 fights, not just 4 (which the UFC never thought he'd fight through). I'd ask you to select any given number and multiply that by 4, then go back and multiply that by 9, and see if you can tell a difference in the numbers, but you have proven once again, math just isn't your thing.

Anderson vs Fedor

It's like the only fight I want to see for both of them at this point
This seems like a weird idea, but I like it. I tend to think he's going to chase Roy Jones instead, but if he doesn't retire, he and Fedor would work. Hendo did it.

They probably are close to the same weight honestly. I'm sure old Silva walks around at like 220. Just have them meet in the cage and fight, no need to cut weight etc

Crazy when you actually sit and look at his record like that. Damn. Who couldve imagined such a fall off for him.
Makes that interview where he predicts the first loss to weidman even more bizarre...give it another watch and then realize he had won his last fight when he gave the interview

Ending prediction is timestamped but the entire interview is bizarre

Has any athlete ever returned to form after a gumby leg break like what happened in Weidman #2? That's two large bones broken badly, and with the leg wrapping around like it did in the shape of a U, there had to be extensive muscle tear as well. Amazing he came back, and more amazing that he was competitive, imo.

I remember that interview well. Shit was weird. Anderson has always been a weird guy tho, and that was around the time he first started speaking English in interviews regularly. The way he said he's tired and shit.. we gotta keep in mind, he was like what 38 by then? Probably just done and maybe he knew it.

Then again he basically gave the first fight away. So weird. And then the leg break, dunno how anyone could come back from that. What a strange story.

He did give that fight away...really seemed like self sabotage on the biggest stage
