"I think they just took a big risk because the face of the UFC was always Dana (White) and Lorenzo,” Silva said Thursday on Brazilian TV show Combate News. "When you don’t have Dana and Lorenzo, the good cop and the bad cop, it’s kind of up in the air. But let’s be positive. I believe everything will be alright."

“The Spider” is optimistic, but believes that the way WME-IMG views the sport is the reason why fighters like Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza haven’t gotten a shot at the UFC championship yet.

"It’s a company that is worried about entertainment. It’s not a company with a history in martial arts, the philosophy of the fight,” Silva said. "That’s one of the reasons why ‘Jacare' is not fighting for the title because, for them, it’s not something profitable, that will bring the entertainment they need.

"This is what they did their entire lives, work with entertainment. We have to understand that. It’s hard because we think about the martial arts, what is correct. For the show, some fights make sense and others don’t. They end up losing some fans but gain some.

"I think they are trying to make it more entertainment and and less martial arts,” he added. "MMA doesn’t have the martial art philosophy, but it's becoming less sport and turning into entertainment.”

Silva might not agree with the direction the UFC is going, but that could benefit him. The Brazilian headlined an event in London against Michael Bisping a year ago. “The Count" would go on to become the 185-pound champion months later, and the controversies surrounding that five-round bout could lead to a rematch.

"I’d really like to fight Bisping,” Silva said. "I think I deserve to fight Bisping, for the belt or not, for everything I’ve done in the sport, but that’s not something that will change my life if it doesn't happen.

"‘Jacare’ is in the line, fighting, going after this (chance). But for the UFC it's a business, and for the business (side), I believe a rematch with Bisping for the belt would sell more. By the sport’s rules, ‘Jacare' is the one who should fight for the belt now.”

Silva will be 42 years old when he returns to the Octagon, and he guarantees that regaining the UFC title is not a priority. But if he gets a shot at the belt and beats Bisping in a rematch, he would just hand the title back to the UFC and leave the division.

"If I fought for the title and won, I’d leave the division,” “The Spider” said. "Maybe fight one or twice more, move up (to light heavyweight) or go down (to welterweight). We’ve done some tests with my team and the lowest weight I made was 170, 171, so that could be a possibility."

I don't think any hardcore MMA fans are gonna be surprised by the demise and downfall of the sport at this point.

This is a great opportunity for Rizin to rise up like a burning phoenix from the ashes of Pride and recapture the MMA World's attention!

I hope to see fighters going over to Rizin or Bellator and building up those organizations, also would love for young fighters looking to break in to head overseas and test the market.

We will be seeing drastic changes in the UFC in the next few years. I think the products overall content goes down but ratings will go up due to the Hollywood factor and their ability to manipulate public perception with the use of celebrities and the control of media.

Time will tell, but we are entering a turbulent time in the MMA World.

Yep. Did it with the Casinos, why not the UFC? Also, I'll be curious to see what happens with the UFC soon.. Some rumors going round about a lot of lay offs and audits on everything.

Wait, explain Fertellis to me.

I originally thought you were talking about the Ferritas / Kizer and what they did to SEG.

So the Ferellis is another Vegas Casino crew about to pull a Ferritas / Kizer on WME-IMG?

Please break down....

Well we're almost 1month in of the New Years but so far UFC's been sucking dick.

They don't even have a stacked card for the Super Bowl weekend.

I feel like these new owners might have 2 stacked PPV per year, that's it.

Does anyone else buy this? I cant see Anderson being able to make 170.

And if he can, it makes me sad we never got to see Anderson vs GSP.

This just really punctuates Bellator's complete inability to get anything interesting going with their org. The UFC is fading and reorganizing and Bellator is nowhere...

And how many years ago was that?
Dunno, but he did it, so if he says he did it recently and can do it again, ..... I see no reason not to believe him.
Note: Even when fighting at 185, he would often weigh in at 182, 183 etc. I'm sure he can still make 170. He was never one of the bigger 185'ers.

I always thought Silva was big?

  1. Anderson Silva has stated that between fights he can weigh as much as 220 lbs. That's pretty amazing, considering the middleweight champion regularly competes at 185 lbs.

Whether the massive weight cut is an advantage for Silva is debatable, as he doesn't exactly out-muscle is opponents. However, it certainly hasn't hurt him as Silva is undefeated in the UFC and currently riding a 15-fight winning streak.

One area where his larger size may help Silva is in the clinch, where he's been known to cause some serious damage.

After fighting Silva for the first time, Rich Franklin remarked on how strong the Brazilian was once he secured the Thai Clinch, which could be attributed to the fact that he is one of the larger fighters in the division.

It's a critical point in Bellator's time. I hope they will stop doing the freak show or relic types of fights. They've got some really good fighters, they don't need to be leading out the Tito's and Chael's anymore.
