It’s that time of the year when I get the urge to by a motorcycle, go to demos, and ultimately bitch out again (For those that don’t know I was in a bad accident in 2008). Last year I wanted either an Indian Scot Bobber or an HD Roadster.

This year, I have the desire to return to my roots. I went and looked at the new Yamaha R1. The innovations they’ve thrown into this liter bike are amazing.

What will I end up getting? Probably not a damn thing again, but it’s fun to talk about getting back on the open road on one. I’d love nothing more than to be back on a track with my elbow an inch from the pavement in a turn...

No doubt they are, but there’s a lot you can do to minimize the risk. I had a strict driving plan I followed... no night riding, no city riding, only lay into the bike at the track, and maintain distance from everyone on the interstate and avoid high congestion if possible.

The accident I had was from me breaking my own rules and riding through the city one day. I got distracted by looking at something in another lane and a drunk guy pulled out in front of me. I don’t remember much, so not sure if I had a chance in hell at avoiding it or not. The other crashes I had were track related and the only thing that got hurt was the ego.

oh jeez, didn't know you had been in one

Its the other drivers that scare me....these days of half the people texting with heads down while doing 45-55 per hour is just so baffling to me

That’s why I don’t like riding in the city. Way too dangerous.

I’ve been jonesing for another bike too, but the twats around here really put me off. I don’t feel particularly safe in my Fusion and sometimes I’m nearly getting sideswiped in a Mini.

You have kids, it’s not worth it.
