Just went to my dentist and the estimate is nuts.

    3 teeth spots

    1 needs extraction & implant
    1 needs implant
    1 needs a crown

    3 estimates/details
    [IMG]

    In layman's terms.

    1- Extracting a tooth, inserting a bone-compatable deposit that will bond.(a "build-up)
Wait 4 months, come back and have a titanium post put in.
Come back 4 months later and have the tooth(crown) put on.
    After tax, that's $5000.00

2- Grind a tooth down to a core, put on a crown.
After tax with discount, that's $1,275.00

    3. Take a CT, install a post, then another crown(tooth).
    After tax, that's $3525.00

All said, just under $10,000.00 and at least 5 visits, likely 6 or 7.

Looking abroad, e.g. Hungary, Thailand, Panama, Philippines, Mexico, Romania, Colombia etc, I'm thinking I could probably plan 2, 1-week vacations, and get it all done for half that while enjoying a beach front like a king, flight+hotel included.

Has anyone done this, particularly for dental needs?
    Recommendations?
    Advice?

I'm a natural researcher, so I'll be as prepared as possible, but I'm sure there are some things only the experienced can teach.

*And if you're wondering how this all happened, what I was told was acid reflux, was really a 25-year hiatal hernia worsening, for which I have a pre-surgery endoscopy next week.*

geez I don't know much about that stuff
I might show the lady those prices and get her opinion, she is basically a dentist without the doctorate

    not sure of abroad
she has seen some rough work from Mexico...make sure to do your due diligence...not all dental work is the same

I have an appointment 8am tomorrow....stresses me out to go in there...even though I have a four dentists in the family
My pops is not in country right now, but I will get her opinion and maybe her dad

I like going to the dentist because I know something's getting fixed. What I don't like is the racket.
If I'm going into somebody's house to fix their electrical panel, or in putting on a firework show, or in flying somebody's luggage somewhere, I make sure the job is completed.
What I don't do is a rig everything for job security.
It's nearly impossible to find a good dentist in my parts.

My dad's dental was the shit and your style...straight shooter who just did what was best for customer and their bank account/health

I get what your saying though...it is a business with sales tactics in some offices
the vultures of the medical profession probably flock to high population areas and bigger cities for max profit

not that I know where you live at all.

I worked with a guy who had extensive work done for himself, and braces for his kids in Argentina. He said the work was done for a fraction of the price here, super modern facilities, and US trained dentists while staying at a great hotel. His teeth look great.

Check out Molar City. Wife is considering going there for implants.

This tiny Mexican town has more than 350 dentists to treat the thousands of Americans who flock across the border for dental care

    quality over speed...quality is #1

and Homecare is essential, even for implants

I knew a lady who went through some weird midlife crisis/got involved with some alternative philosophy and went to Mexico to get all her teeth pulled out because U.S. dentists wouldn't do it.

    That's all I know.

Sometimes when I have a sinus headache or a migraine or my tmj is bothering me, I feel like I want to yank all my teeth out, so I totally understand. Maybe it would relieve a lot of tension? Idk.

Don't you dare stop telling this story. You've left far too much info out. So you really need to fill in all of those blanks.

Not much more to say than that, unfortunately. She was a friend of my aunt's when I was growing up.

I believe she was estranged from or actively estranging herself from her husband at the time. I saw her in the subway once with serious shiner - not sure if that was from him or even related.

I do think he was known for being kind of grumpy and difficult, but idk who started it, and that was the only time I ever saw her with a mark on her face, which doesn't mean much though.

She had a couple of great kids, though, already pretty much grown at that point I think. Grandkids now too. I have no idea what she's up to these days.

She was a good-looking woman and smiled a lot when I was younger, then she just became this unhappy, unsatisfied person. Or it seemed that way to me, from pretty far on the outside.

If you read that article, they actually have a picture of @sparkuri@sparkuri, already in Mexico - idk why he even made this thread; just to make us dance for him I guess.

I just recently had a root canal and crown done on one of my molars. It was around $1200.

I'm also thinking of changing my dentist. His work is fine, but he's had some turnover in his office and two of the cute dental assistants have been replaced by cranky, old women.

Look in to turkey, alot of europeans seem to go there for dental work in private clinics, i know two dudes who've had work done there at a fraction of the price it would be here in the Netherlands and they are pretty happy with the work.
You should do some research though because there are some charlatans, there are ton of reviews

Not gonna lie; sometimes I grease up at 1am Saturday nights, strap blocks of butter to my body, turn off the lights, turn on the strobe lights and rock this on the Hi-Fi half-naked.
