Farm subsidies in the form of guarenteed grain prices are the primary cause of unemployment in Central America and southern Mexico. That's the place on Earth where corn grows like a weed. No need to dump copious amounts of anhydrous ammonia or fertilizer in on the ground, and they can't sell corn at a profit. Our tax dollars are buying grain at inflated prices and then dumping it in China and Europe at a loss. Add in the War on Drugs, and it's not hard to see why unemployment is over 25% and violence is rampant is those rural areas. If any of us were born in to that situation, we'd be hopping a train to work the corporate farms in the US.
