General Are deadbeat American farmers the new welfare queens?

    Farm subsidies in the form of guarenteed grain prices are the primary cause of unemployment in Central America and southern Mexico. That's the place on Earth where corn grows like a weed. No need to dump copious amounts of anhydrous ammonia or fertilizer in on the ground, and they can't sell corn at a profit. Our tax dollars are buying grain at inflated prices and then dumping it in China and Europe at a loss.

    Add in the War on Drugs, and it's not hard to see why unemployment is over 25% and violence is rampant is those rural areas. If any of us were born in to that situation, we'd be hopping a train to work the corporate farms in the US.

    Yeah, I saw a stat (forgotten exactly what it was) showing basically all of the funds are going to the top. Classic corporate welfare branded as relief for the little guy.

    if you're a small farmer, they pay you more to not grow anything.
    But then you get Kobe Bryant buying 20k acres of worthless dirt and writing it off like he could get 300 bushels an acre out of it.
