i can't be the only one who thought it was basically a remake? It was well-filmed and enjoyable, but come on! How fucking lazy can we get, here?! When they have to specifically say the Starkiller was more deadly than the Death you know they're just retelling the same story but BIGGER! AND MORE JJ ABRAMS!

Everyone thought that. They're arguing about whether it nontheless was a fun movie, especially after the last 3.

And the plot felt rushed. Very little character development and friendships were basically shoehorned in.
Still a good popcorn movie, but it will not be talked about the same was in 38 years as the original has been.

I certainly hope they slow down the plot in Ep.9 and allow the leading character to develop skills through training, and we see the struggles etc.... and no more of this get good, just because closed eyes for 3 seconds in the movie. :/

It was fun, period. But not 95% on RT fun. It just didn't SUCK completely like I-III. Looking forward to 8 and 9, because Luke looked badass and Rian Johnson is original as fuck.

Typical of Abrams writing. Disney hired an Oscar winning screen writer and jj basically threw his work out and did it himself with a consult from kasdan. Ok popcorn flick, he's gone for the next one. So that's good.

I feel like story was sacrificed for dialogue exchanges. There could have been a few more lengthy deliveries to help tell the story of the missing few decades.
AND I was disappointed as heck to not see Luke wrecking shop.:windchime:

I think they held Luke back in this one just to build anticipation for episodes 8 and 9

Still haven't been to see the movie, but my understanding is that we're all just supposed to pretend the expanded universe, the thing that has sustained the franchise, doesn't exist. Is this a correct assertion?

I'm not a nerd enough to know- I think I read somewhere this movie negates Empire and Jedi or something, but I have no idea how that would work, especially since Empire is largely considered the best of them all.

The EU has been relegated to "Legends" status, where stuff may or may not have happened.

I really liked it. It felt like a real star wars finally. When the bad guy took off his mask and looked like JP from grandmas boy it took me out of the film a little bit but everything else was on point. Exotic locations, strange vehicles and aliens, light sabers, the score and sfx. It was all great.
